BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1977
“I Need a Man” was the debut single by singer and actress Grace Jones, originally recorded and released in France for the label Orfeus while Jones was still working as a fashion model. The track was later released in the U.S. on the minor disco label Beam Junction before Jones signed with Island Records, re-recorded the track and included it on her 1977 debut album Portfolio.

I have the original ‘orfeus’ release … this version is not actually a re-recording, they just added some backing vocals and did a new mix.
Thanks for putting this one up!!
Thank you so much for this great Grace Jones 12″ single!
How about the 12″ of “Feel Up?” The long version is essential Grace! Thanks much.
YES!!! I”ve been wanting a clean copy of both sides of this forever!
How fitting that I am watching ‘A view to a kill’ at this very minute ..
will any of the re-issues contain any of the following…..?
I’ll Find My Way To You / Again And Again
Nipple To The Bottle / Ja Guys
Esta Cara Me Es Conocida (I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango))
I’ve Seen That Face Before (Libertango) (Em Portugues)
Cry Now, Laugh Later (Vocal)Cry Now, Laugh Later (Dub)Nipple To The Bottle (Dub)
Thanks again for all your efforts, Paul. I’m sure near-mint copies of “Sorry” / “That’s The Trouble” are hard to find. Good luck in your quest. I and the other disco fans out there look forward to it! All the best,
jbird
sir pls uplod The Star Sisters- He’s the 1 i love (dance mix) pls.. thanks…
wow, this is psychic! i was just thinking yesterday that it would be nice to have a new grace jones rip from you. and here it is! 🙂
p.s. I’ve been meaning to compliment you and worship at your altar for the great work you do on the album art. I like to “restore” old movie poster images (using Irfanview) and I know how difficult it sometimes is to clean up these things. Thanks so much, Paul.
As a professional Photoshop user of some 10+ years, I too am quite astounded by the level of cleaning/clarity you’ve managed to achieve on the sleeve scans, DjPaulT.
Eg. getting such flat colours on this scan, whilst still retaining the detail in the photograph is quite a task: http://burningthegrounddjpault.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/b-back1.jpg
Any chance you could do a post with a few of your most used tips & tricks?
I have a couple of trade secrets but the main thing is scannig at a very high resolution.
Thanks!!
This one is COOL.
I need a man could be an anthem for a lot of us 😉
Wow!!! I never knew about the instrumental b-side before!!!! Thanks so much!!! =)
And if I may be so bold, I 2nd the request for “Sorry” / “That’s The Trouble” if possible. Early Grace is great!!!
HOORAY!!! Thank you SOOOOO much! How about “Sorry” / “That’s The Trouble” next? Please, please, PLEASE???!!!
Jbird I had every intention of posting “Sorry/That’ts The Trouble” 12″ next. I had a sealed copy, but when I opened it and played it there is a scuff on the vinyl that causes major distortion for about the first minute of “Sorry”. So I am going to purchase another copy. Hopefully this is not a defect of the factory pressing. Just as soon as the new copy arrives (and it sounds up to standard), I promise I will post it. I am super sorry but I would rather delay the post than post something that does not sound good.… Read more »
Thanks! I didn’t have this one. This comes just in time for the upcoming CD re-release of her Fame album, as well as the “lost” album, Muse. I do have to point out that “I Need a Man” only charted at #83 on the Hot 100, not #6.
Thanks for letting me know about the typo.
Coolio! Thanks.
