Go West – We Close Our Eyes (Total Overhang Mix) (Australia 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“We Close Our Eyes” is a song by British pop band Go West, composed by both members Peter Cox and Richard Drummie. Recognizable by its synthesizer hook, it was the first single from their début album Go West.

The single was promoted by a music video directed by Godley & Creme.[1] This video included Cox, Drummie and the guitarist Alan Murphy, performing the song in front of dancing wooden artist mannequins.

“We Close Our Eyes” spent fourteen weeks on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 5 in April 1985. In the United States, the single reached 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

**”We Close Our Eyes (Total Overhang Dub Mix)” is exclusive to the Australia and New Zealand releases of the 12″ single.

It sounds a little different from the version I know… Maybe it’s the remaster or because it’s Mendelsohn’s version.. Anyway, thanks!

What’s listed here as being the “Total Overhang Dub Mix” on this NZ 12″ was released in the US as the “Total Overhang Club Mix” and released as the A-side for the “We Close Our Eyes” 12″.

What’s listed here as being the “Total Overhang Club Mix” on this NZ 12″ was released in the US as the “Complete Underhang Mix” on the B-side of the US “Call Me” 12″.

It took me a little while to get the name of the remix. But now you have thrown into this confusion another mix. Sounds like all the names went east. Bit if you go any where in life, Go West! 😛

Oh man, I loved Go West back in the day!!! Thank you!

p.s. I’d gratefully second a request (on any day, not necessarily tomorrow 🙂 ) a post of Al B Sure’s Nite & Day single… would kill to hear any remixes or just anything related to that.

Thanks for all you do!

The labeling of this song’s remixes is just a big mess although there seem to be only two remixed and extended versions. Nonetheless they are both fantastic!!! I wonder if the band itself or at least Mr. Mendelsohn could bring light into this.

Thank you. In case anyone is interested, the 5:56 mix is on 12 Inch Dance: 80s Synthpop [CD 3], titled Total Overhang Club Mix.

I have that CD and Paul’s rip sounds so much better. Why are people so crazy about CDs they are flat compressed and boring.

I think it really depends. If it’s done correctly, meaning, the Label used the digital source of the 12″ mixes (which means digital sources really only existed after 1984 for remixes), then it will sound great on cd. If the Label uses vinyl as a source, then it’s all up to how well the vinyl is preserved and the myriad of steps that need to be taken to “convert” a piece of vinyl to something that sounds pristine. If they get it right on CD format, then the obvious cd benefits exist: far better dynamic range, no pops/hiss, lower wow… Read more »

Darn…this Dub Mix is not a dub at all. It’s just the “Total Overhang Club Mix” that’s on other 12″s and that you already posted in 2012. Oh well, still a great mix!

Yes sadly there is no dub mix as you mentioned Fred about it being the Total Overhang Club Mix. Track 1 is mislabeled on this 12 inch as it’s the Total Overhang Mix not the club mix.

Makes this good value then. I had to buy two separate 12″ singles to get both versions in the UK!

Yes, same here!! I remember being quite pleased when I found the Underhang Mix 12″ in downtown records in Romford…and being annoyed at not buying the Kitchen Sink remix of Call Me when I saw it , when I returned another day, someone had bought it! Luckily Paul has a great version here these days.

Essex boy, eh? What was the name of the record shop in Wickford called? Amazing place, but the prices were astronomical!

Adrians! Yes, great selection but rather pricey! Spent many an hour there rummaging around…upstairs at Downtown records was also good, think that’s where I bought ‘Into Battle with The Art of Noise’ and started going down the whole ZTT 12″ rabbit hole!
