BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1990
“Freedom ’90” (also known simply as “Freedom”) is a song written, produced, and performed by George Michael, and released on Columbia Records in 1990. The “’90” added to the end of the title is to prevent confusion with a hit by Michael’s former band, Wham!, also titled “Freedom”.
It was the third single taken from Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, “Freedom ’90” was one of a few uptempo songs on this album, it was also a major hit and went to #8 in the US. The song is referring to George’s past success with Wham! but also shows a new side of himself as a new man, who is more cynical about the music business than he had been before. Michael refused to appear in the video and let a group of supermodels appear instead, lip-syncing the lyrics.
George Michael performed the song during the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

Thank you so much!
I can never get enough of George!! So talented and handsome too!! Excellent to hear the seven inch edit of “Freedom 90” too! I love that you’re a completest Paul!! And that flip-side, is marvelous. I bought the original CD5 back in the day, and “Fantasy” was the jam. My friend Bruce and I couldn’t get enough of this song then and so many memories kept rushing back. George is a beautiful gift. And Paul!! You’re like psychic. I just read that Wham!’s “Make It Big” is going to get an expanded release called, “Make It Bigger” and I immediately… Read more »
Say it isn’t so David. I am heart-broken! It was something I was determined to have and now, wow, I’m really saddened about the news. I do get really blue over these types of things, because it’s so rare to get a complete package of something one longs for. Thankfully there’s Paul to make so many of our musical quests concrete.
Have a nice day.
Jeff

Good listening.

many thanks~ Paul
For some songs a shorter edit of an album version works well but not in this case, Freedom 90 is a long burner, it just flows on and on, so this edit misses a large chunk of a great song. Fantasy is also a cool track, it’s on the remastered CD version of Faith and a just slightly altered, but also a very funky version called Fantasy 98 is on the Outside maxi-cd. Nice reminder Paul!
The B-side “Fantasy” is the real find here, a GREAT danceable track from the Faith sessions I believe. Would have been a welcome jolt on the Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 album.
I’m getting this one just for the (non LP) B-Side which is very good. Thank you Paul!
Great to see more George Michael posted. This is one of my favourite singles.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome Junior. Enjoy!
I get the same 404 error as Osc.

You TRULY are the greatest, Paul. Thank you very much. 🙂
Thank you atahualpaFX 🙂

It’s now working Osc 🙂
Thank you. 🙂
Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
Thank you, Paul! One of his most iconic songs. Although a hit in the US, it only just limped into the Top 30 here in the UK. Shameful! Please post any more of George Michael if you have anything!
You’re welcome André 🙂
Yep you are correct David pretty much the entire Wham! catalog is represented 🙂
Thanks so much.
You’re welcome Hugh 🙂
