In 1981, when new wave and punk were the movement of the day, Elton John released his first album for Geffen Records, “The Fox”. Not a “party” album, but a very stately, majestic album.
The first single, “Nobody Wins”. Is a magnificent, soaring piece of electronic-pop that was sweeping and dramatic. It soundeds like the title track to a James Bond film. It was also released in Europe, with EJ singing the vocals in French, under the name of “J’Veux De La Tendresse”.
“Nobody Wins” peaked at #21 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #23 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The song did not do as well in Elton’s home country and only peaked at #42 on the UK singles chart.
This US 12″ contains both the “Extended Version” of the song as well as the “French Version”. Both tracks are exclusive to this release.

Merci so much Paul for the french version ! This song has never been on any CD (as far I as I know) and I also had a scratchy version of that like the other people taht left a comment. It’s probably the cleanest version in the world… bravo !!! Your next mission, if you accept it, is to find the french version of “Johnny Can’t read” by Don Henley (same perio, around 1982). Thanks for this great rip. This is my favourite Elton John song and the first 7″ I ripped back in 2002. It’s Strange that this song is not found on any Elton John compilation CDs that’s why I had to buy the fox CD. According to this site “http://eltonjohnallsongslist.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html” The song was born in summer 1980. While driving through St. Tropez, Elton heard heard Janic Prevost version of J’Veux D’La Tendress (“I Want Tenderness”) on the car radio. Thanks a ton for this! The only version I had was also scratchy at best.. Appearantly, these promos were also shipped with a felt “Fox” either attached to the sleve or in the jacket or something! Cool song. Should have fared better, but respectible. Of note, Elton did not write the words of music for this one. One of the few Elton “Covers” to chart.

THANK YOU!! My copy of this was too scratchy. I didn’t even know this existed until a year ago, and I’ve loved the song from 1980 when Geffen Records started. Now if they only made an extended of Donna Summer’s “The Wanderer”, I’d be in music heaven!!
