Burning The Ground Exclusive 1988
“Motorcycle Baby” is a 1988 electro-punk single released in Australia by Ecco Homo. The band was founded by Australian artist, singer, and musician “Troy” Davies (1960–2007), sometimes known as Ecco Homo or Vanessa.
Under the stage name Ecco Homo, Troy signed a record deal with RooArt. He released two singles, “Motorcycle Baby” and “New York, New York”. In the video clip for “Motorcycle Baby,” he’s wrapped around INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, wearing a blonde wig and winged shades. Davies was known as a pioneer of sexual expression.
.
Producers and musicians who worked on the singles include Ollie Olsen, Gus Till, Michael Sheridan, Bill McDonald (all from Max Q), and Big Pig’s Sherine Abeyratne who provided female vocals.

Simply AMAZING! How did I never hear about this one? Great track and great video! Thank you for sharing another OBSCURE 80s vinyl!
The beat and the chorus remind me a lot of PRINCE, which makes this track even more amazing!
Actually, it makes sense that Michael Hutchence appeared in this video, when you look at the credits. This song, and New York, were written and/or produced by Gus Till, Michael Sheridan & Ollie Olsen, who formed MAX Q with Michael Hutchence.
Oh Martika,
Your enthusiasm for music is so palpable!! Loved reading your excitement about this track!
Have a great day!!
Jeff
lol … right back atcha! Paul’s site is amazing. How can you not get excited about every vinyl he rips…lol … I love when he posts these obscure titles. All of them are bangers. I imagine, if he played them in a club back in the day, I would have probably bothered him the entire night to find out what the track is!
Thank you, Martika
Wow, this is rare! Nice to get a good transfer of this early Xmas gift to us. Michael Hutchence was rad! That video has the same vibe as the artwork for Revenge’s “One True Passion”. Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome, Joey 🙂
Hey Paul, THanks greatly for doing this, very rare australian gold that unfortunately has never seen a proper digital release, and your remaster is just simply awesome. A BIG THANK YOU from down under.
You’re very welcome, matey 🙂
This pretty much confirms my theory Michael Hutchence was gay friendly, not 100% str8, and/or sexually liberal. This track could have easily been a bonus remix track on the INXS album Kick
Pretty sure Michael was an LGBTQ ally. Bono and The Edge appeared in the band’s other video “New York New York”.
Wow! I just checked it out. It’s not the Sinatra cover, another good club video I hadn’t seen before.
Welcome back Paul!! I’m glad to hear you had a great break. Of course, it’s always great to have you back. Thanks for this post – such a fun track! Just oozing with sensuality to a great beat! Like Jeff said, an assault on the senses, lol. Love the video too, featuring two of the biggest who’s who of the Australian music scene. Another new one for me, great to see it have the light of day again!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. I get so happy when you guys end up liking one of these obscure ones. The band’s other single “New York, New York” features appearances by Bono and The Edge.
If you ever decide to post that one, we’ll be ready to lap it up!
Both of Ecco’s videos are really well done. Anyone who can get all those Aussie musicians and U2’s guys in their video must be a real player
Welcome back, Paul. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving break! I missed you and the community here. Although new to me, this was right up my alley. Loved the theme of this record. Heavy on the sex and having to do with Biker culture. It was so, “Scorpio Rising”, Kenneth Anger’s underground film. All the leather, denim, hot engines, wet – water, sweat and God knows what else – in a great amalgamation of imagery. Although I’m no biker myself, I love this uber-masculine assault on my senses. Love the female vocals on this too. Excited that Nick Launay was… Read more »
I had a great break, Jeff. I am glad to be back. This record was a fun one to work on. I am super happy that you like it. 🙂
