Burning The Ground Exclusive 1981
“My Own Way” is the fourth single by Duran Duran, originally released as a single on 16 November 1981.
The single was designed as a stop-gap release to capitalize on the Top 5 success of the band’s previous single, “Girls on Film”, but prior to the recording and release of the band’s second album Rio (which was recorded in the early months of 1982).
**This UK 12″ Promo contains the rare “Instrumental Night Version” of “My Own Way”, and is exclusive to this release. The track was officially released on mp3 as part of the remastered digital version of the album “RIO”. The track has never appeared officially on CD.

Wow! So cool. I have a TON of Duran Duran vinyl, but I’ve never seen or heard the instrumental night version of this! Thanks so much for doing this one. Takes me back to high school and early college for me; my best friend in college was a huge fan of Duran Duran and we’d play their records all the time. We’d go to record shows and scour the booths for Japanese 12″ singles and original UK pressings of the LPs. Such great memories attached to this music.
Hi Paul, hope you and your family had a nice holiday.
Great to finally have your vinyl recording of My Own Way (Instrumental Night Version), I’ve always loved this song and the later version they did for the RIO album.
To this day I cannot find the actual vocals (David Attenborough) from a nature documentary, that the band used for The Chauffeur “There’s more to this kind of camouflage… More than just colour and shape” etc, it was on a BBC record
Fantastic to finally hear their new single “Anniversary” released today, nice upbeat tune.
Wow. I remember them, back in high school. Where did the time go?
Thanks Paul, for triggering multiple flashbacks 🙂
(And now it’s off to therapy and crisis counseling from these durned flashbacks.)
This is simply amazing. Thank you Paul. Just when I think I’ve heard it all, the DJ pulls out something from the magic record crate.
When I found the regular import 12″ of this single, I got it mainly to hear the b-side, I was really surprised to hear it was a different recording. I’ve always felt it would have fit well on the first album, much better that “Is There Something I should Know.”
You’re welcome, Joey. I agree with you I guess the band wanted to offer something new I do live “Is There Something I Should Know? though 🙂
Wow, what an amazing treat Paul. I didn’t know this existed, thank you once again for your generosity. xx
You’re very welcome, Jermajesty 🙂
Thank you for this Duran Duran rarity!! You never disappoint.
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
FAAAAAAANTASTIC post, dearest Paul. I have the 2-cd remaster of “Rio”, of course, but not the digital bonus. So, the instrumental night version is new to me. Although “My Own Way” has never been one of my Duran favs I love the voiceless version. And needless to say, it´s brilliant to have it in DJ PaulT quality. Thank you so much. 🙂
From what I have read the band is not fond of the song which is why it has never appeared on any of their official hits packages. I personally love the song. Good to see you 🙂
Hi Paul,
I’m glad you were able to find a copy, and I’m glad
you have now posted it. This is probably the best
this single will sound, especially with the instrumental.
I loved this version, because it is so radically different
from the Album version. The disco strings are used
to great effect. The video used the short fast version
also.
Glad to see Duran Duran back here again, the only
other rare instrumental is the Greek 12 inch of
Girls on film, with a slightly different mix, and
an instrumental.

You’re welcome, Negative1. This single is getting harder to find these days so I am happy I now own it. I also have the Greek “Girls On Film” 12′ that I am sure I will post soon. 🙂
Great! In mono or stereo? 🙂
Paul, again you come through with another great rarity. Thanks for this share very much!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff I know Karen will like this one too. Hope you guys are well 🙂
