Talk about mismatched lyrics to cliché house remix by at the time hot underground producer caching it in. There were many similar substandard releases at this time in the late 80s eg Samantha Fox’s Kevin Saunderson acid/techno mixes. The marketing/AR teams at the majors figured the wanna-be hipster club kids would lap up these Frankenstein tracks and that urban mix shows would play them thanks to the added street cred by remixers who actually had talent. Sadly this ridiculous trend continued throughout the 90s and to this day with quick money grabs and often comedic results. At least some of… Read more »
Wanted to add that we need a list of songs and/remixes that sample Alison Moyet’s laugh from Situation! And I’d take more Donny remixes from this era!
OH.MY.!!! thanks a million. LOVED this album, can’t wait to hear these remixes. The parent album was cool and funky & a sort of fraternal twin to St. Paul’s Down To The Wire. If I remember correctly same team worked on both and Paul & Donny may even appear on each others records… I recently acquired still in the box Donny & Marie dolls for a surprise for my little sister!
Very cool ING! I love the parent album as well. I think might have a St. Paul 12″ around here too 🙂
I’m going to guess it’s the mixes to Stranger To Love. I have those on a promo. I don’t know if they did any others. Thanks again!
I think the one I have is called “Intimacy”
Interesting, that would be from his 1st solo album after leaving The Family!
Wow I was not aware of this one! It’s really a worthy follow-up to his self-titled album, of which I’ll admit I loved the hits Soldier of Love and Sacred Emotion. And I can’t believe they were still pulling the “mystery artist” stunt with this album too! Weren’t his previous hits enough to let the cat out of the bag already?? Thanks for posting this gem, he’s well deserving of the recognition. For me, Sacred Emotion was a sleeper hit in the summer of ’89. Have a great weekend! Btw I like the inclusion of the video.
I loved his self-titled album. “Soldier Of Love” was my jam lol I also really loved “Sacred Emotion”. Geffen Records pulled the same stunt with Olivia the track I posted a few days ago “I Need Love” the 12″ promo did not have her name on it just “O”. Thanks for the input on the video inclusion hopefully I can get into the habit of doing it 🙂 Have a great weekend.
Even though this was Donny’s foré into freestyle, it should have been a bigger hit. Just shows you the resistance of programmers based on a teen pop image rather than on their current merits as a growing artist. Check out D&M’s daytime variety show. There are some incredible performances with major artists that will really surprise you how talented and versatile they are in different genres. Plus they have lots of fun as well. Also Paul, thanks for posting the YT extended mix video. I think this is a first for BTG! Woo hoo!!!
The U.S. promo cam without Donny’s name on the label and hype sticker instead there was a toll-free telephone number to call and find out who recorded the smash single. Pretty sad but the song became a top 40 hit for Donny. I know that people will not comment or admit that they like this record. But for me I love it and Mr. Osmond’s ’80s and early 90’s output is top-notch. Glad you like the inclusion of the video I might start doing this from now on. 🙂
Growing up in the 1970’s, I really liked watching Donny & Marie on Friday Nights on the ABC television network. It was a weekly ritual to start my weekend as a kid. Fast forward much later and it was cool hearing that Donny Osmand was making great pop records! Thanks for a cool 12-inch single, Paul!
Have a nice weekend, Paul, Song And Dance, Retro Hound, Fred and the rest!!
Jeff
Thanks, have a great weekend Jeff!!
Never really watched their show just bits here and there. But Donny in the 80s/90s I was swooning and loved his work during this period. Have a nice weekend 🙂
He really was underrated during that time!
