BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984
Released in October 1984 “Blasphemous Rumours” is Depeche Mode’s twelfth UK single. The song was taken from the album Some Great Reward. In the UK the single peaked at #16 while in the US it did not chart.
This rare US 12″ promo features a superb ‘two-face’ custom picture sleeve unique to this release. According to Depeche Mode’s official site the two edits are actually the single versions and were mislabeled by Sire Records.

The album that elevated DM to the international scene.
This single sleeve is so unique and I’ve never seen it before. Thanks for sharing, Paul.
In the UK, Blasphemous Rumours is a double-A single with Somebody, in my top 3 of my favourite DM singles. Perhaps the US label deemed it too mellow to be included for release there…
I was always surprised that this single didn’t do anything in the US. For some odd reason I had it in my mind that it charted here. Maybe just because it is such an iconic DM song.
Hi Dj Paul T! Thanks for this DM! it’s been a while since i visited your site. i played this The Freak Society – Toon To The Beat just now and i remember i ask for your help to rip this for me thats why i have a copy. Hope All Is Well With You.
You’re welcome Eric 🙂
Thanks for the gem, Paul. Never knew this special copy existed. One of the “surprises” only you can provide. DM are one of few groups with LOADS of rare, promotional, and numerous different versions for a single track (not counting the bootlegs of course). Even a completist can never tell if he’s heared everything that came out on vinyl.
I agree George E. There is so much out there one can never know what to look for. Enjoy!
Great share Paul !
Thank you Tony!
Thank you!
You’re welcome Johan!
Thanks Paul, even just for the scans!
This pressing always eluded me back in the day. I saw the green US promo of Strangelove far more often in shops.
You’re welcome Goodguy. This pressing is pretty hard to find and usually expensive when in top condition.
Thanks Paul! I hope you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Nice to see you antbee. I had a great Christmas. Hope you did too 🙂
ESTE TEMA ME RECUERDA CUANDO TUVE EL ALBUM EN CONCIERTO EL 101 ALLA POR 1992….Y LO LLEVE AL CENTRO DONDE ESTUDIABA Y EL PROFESOR JORGE…NO RECUERDO EL APELLIDO NOS EXPLICÓ LO QUE SIGNIFICA “BLASFEMO”, “BLASFEMAR”, LO QUE HIZO QUE ESTE TEMA SEA MAS DE MI AGRADO….QUE BUEN DISCO…NUNCA LO TUVE EN VERSION ORIGINAL….
MIL GRACIAS PAULT.
