BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Lover Come Back to Me” is a 1985 single by Dead or Alive, produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. It was taken from the band’s second album, Youthquake, and the single mix features slightly different instrumentation to the album version but is generally the same. The single peaked at #11 in the UK, #3 in South Africa, #21 in Germany, #13 in Australia and #75 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The B-side to the single was “Far Too Hard”, a song from the band’s first album.
The single generally received positive reviews, being described as “appealing” by Ira Robbins while Ned Raggett of Allmusic said, “When Burns commands at the end of the chorus, ‘Kick it right down, right down!’ it’s as memorable as mass media pop of any stripe ever gets.”
As a bonus track I have included the “7” Bonus Mix” which I lifted from the U.S. 12″.

The Hooked On Love 7″ singles are very confusing. Here’s what I have figured out from my own collection: UK 7″ has a version similar to the LP mix, but splices in the new middle vocal section from the 12″ (“Do you deal in it? ‘Coz I want some…” This version also appears on the Japanese 12″ and is titled “La Vie En Rose Mix” UK 7″ REMIX (same art as the 12″) has the edit of the 12″ remix. Thank you. For those interested, the Extended Remix appears on the Retro:Active 5 Rare & Remixed CD. Both the Extended Remix and the original version appear on the compilation CD That’s The Way I Like It: The Best of Dead Or Alive, but they are slowed down and the pitch is lower.
Retro Active series is not that great they use sub-par vinyl and over process the mastering.They even say “Any audio imperfections are due to original source masters.”. I also don’t get why they slowed the pitch for The Way I Like It: The Best of Dead Or Alive compilation. That’s why they should call Paul if they want it done correctly.
