BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Lover Come Back to Me” is a 1985 single by Dead or Alive, produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. It was taken from the band’s second album, Youthquake, and the single mix features slightly different instrumentation to the album version but is generally the same. The single peaked at #11 in the UK, #3 in South Africa, #21 in Germany, #13 in Australia and #75 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The B-side to the single was “Far Too Hard”, a song from the band’s first album.
The single generally received positive reviews, being described as “appealing” by Ira Robbins while Ned Raggett of Allmusic said, “When Burns commands at the end of the chorus, ‘Kick it right down, right down!’ it’s as memorable as mass media pop of any stripe ever gets.”
As a bonus track I have included the “7” Bonus Mix” which I lifted from the U.S. 12″.

THANK YOU
HI Paul:
Thanks for another fresh rip from your 12″ vinyl collection. Is there chance to hear someday the three early D.O.A. singles? (I’m falling,Number eleven and it’s been hours now)
thanks again for rediscover all this 80’s gems!
My favorite Dead Or Alive track. I fondly remember my friends and I going to clubs that had ”teen night” and filling the floor when this came on.
muchas gracias amigo DjPaulT.
Greetings from Bobby Orlando & Patrick Cowley, the SAW Hi-NRG productions were pretty cool, but later they got lost in cheesiness. NRG is always welcome on BTG!
classic burns…love it!
Just when I thought you could have a bigger uhm how shall I put it, ‘happier’ post. You did it. And in a S.A.W.-box with pink bows and twinkling bells on. I need a drink and sit this one out. You guys freak out and have fun, and nice to see/read, though. I shall return 🙂
Hi, Paul, at least the 24 bit version of “Far Too Hard” ist mis-named “Far To Hard”.
Together with “Misty Circles” one of my favourite DOA tracks!!!
Thank you!!!!!
Three excellent posts in succession – you’re spoiling us… BTG’s looking great and sounding fantastic. I truly appreciate the time you spend turning vinyl into digital gold, and the details about the equipment and software you use. Thanks so very much.
Love DOA. Thank you very much Paul.
Thanks so much for this Paul!!! I’ve been looking for this 7″ version for a while. Now the only DoA track I’m looking for is the Dub mix of “I’d Do Anything”.
Again- thanks for all the wonderful lost treasures you post!
outstanding!! the more DOA the merrier, what an amazing sounding rip! Makes my iOn USB to computer sound rubbish
Thank you davidandrews I do have more DOA 🙂
Paul you’re a sweetheart. DOA 12″ singles r fabulous. Do you have the Japanese 7″ remix of Hooked On Love ? I think it’s an edit of the Big Revolver mix.
I think I do Omar I will check. Have a great weekend 🙂
The Hooked On Love 7″ singles are very confusing. Here’s what I have figured out from my own collection: UK 7″ has a version similar to the LP mix, but splices in the new middle vocal section from the 12″ (“Do you deal in it? ‘Coz I want some…” This version also appears on the Japanese 12″ and is titled “La Vie En Rose Mix” UK 7″ REMIX (same art as the 12″) has the edit of the 12″ remix. This record was also released in a gatefold sleeve with a second 7″: “Something In My House”. It is almost… Read more »
I think I have the UK Remix in a gatefold sleeve.
Paul, I am overjoyed about this posting!! I love me some Pete and your rips are certainly Heavenly in zeroes and ones: Digital Nirvana!! He was so handsome back in the Eighties!! I so miss those great looks of his. Thank you for furthering your Dead Or Alive discography!! These are GOLD!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
Jeff
Thank you Jeff have a wonderful weekend 🙂
Thank you. For those interested, the Extended Remix appears on the Retro:Active 5 Rare & Remixed CD. Both the Extended Remix and the original version appear on the compilation CD That’s The Way I Like It: The Best of Dead Or Alive, but they are slowed down and the pitch is lower.
Retro Active series is not that great they use sub-par vinyl and over process the mastering. They even say “Any audio imperfections are due to original source masters.”. I also don’t get why they slowed the pitch for The Way I Like It: The Best of Dead Or Alive compilation. That’s why they should call Paul if they want it done correctly.
This freaking rip rocks!!!
You’re welcome Ally 🙂
