Burning The Ground Exclusive 1985
“Shockwave” is a 1985 single by British musician David Knopfler taken from his second solo album “Behind The Lines” after leaving Dire Straits.
He was born in Scotland, but raised in Blyth, near Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Together with his older brother Mark Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers, he founded the rock band Dire Straits in 1977, serving as rhythm guitarist on their first two albums. After quitting the band in 1980 during the recording of their third album, Knopfler embarked upon a solo career as a recording artist.
“Shockwave” did not chart, and there was no music video released for the song. The single was only released in Germany and the U.K.

First of all, I ***LOVE*** the new BTG website logo! It also resembles the new Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds imaging as well as the DD video.
Second, the David Knopfler tracks are a real treat! Wasn’t aware he’d broken away from Dire Straits for a solo career that’s generally overshadowed by his brother.
also, the new website design did not go unnoticed … very ominous (like Big Brother’s Watching You), but I love it!
Thank you, Martika Good eye lol The idea cam from the Duran Duran Psycho Killer video Duran Duran – PSYCHO KILLER (feat. Victoria DeAngelis) [Visualizer] (youtube.com)
ah, OK! I figured it was another Duran Duran reference, but I hadn’t seen the new video yet. Very cool!
This song a was a dance club hit in western Canada.
I’m such a goofball … I saw Knopfler and instantly read it as “Mark Knopfler” and kept thinking, man he looks a lot like Mark but not quite … duh.
Thanks for sharing this Paul!!
You’re welcome, Grant 🙂
As you know, I love these rare Rock Remixes! THANK YOU for this extra-rare treat! I’m surprised this wasn’t a bigger hit, as it sounds very fit for the time it was released. I’m very excited to finally hear the remix.
Have a great weekend, and week ahead, Martika. You make this place wonderful!!
Jeff
Wow, Paul. Just WOW. I haven´t heard this song in ages and I´m pretty sure I have never heard the remix as the pumping bass sequencer would have digged its way into my memory. Reminds me of Al Jarreau´s “Raging Waters”. Great find, thank you so much. Have a wonderful weekend, Paul and Jeff and Retro Hound and all you lovely people in this safe haven.
You’re welcome, Song And Dance. Have a great weekend 🙂
Thanks Song and Dance, same to you. Good call about Al Jarreau’s Raging Waters.
Thank you, as always, Song And Dance. Have a great weekend too!!
Jeff
Wow, Paul! That’s another fantastic obscure 80s post! I like Mark and David Knopfler’s music. Didn’t know about this remix! I think Retro Hound is right, the song Sunset must be exclusive to this single. Thanks a lot Paul for this special rock week. Have a great weekend Paul, Jeff and all the great BTG community.
You’re welcome, Daniel. Have a great weekend 🙂
Big hug, Daniel!! You are very special!!
Jeff
Big hug, Jeff! You too!
Like what Retro Hound said below, this has been a “killer week” of rock 12-inches. I am looking forward to checking this one out!! Thanks so much, Paul, for all the time you spend on these rarities!! I hope you and everyone else has a great weekend!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. Have a nice weekend 🙂
Wow talk about obscure, but should’ve been a hit! Great, big beat and the vocals have a hint of his brother Mark. Perhaps this is what Dire Straits might have sounded like in an alternate universe? This is very worthy of a reexamination, and I believe the track Sunset is exclusive to this release. Thank you Paul!! This has been quite a killer rock week, as I know quite a few of us are excited. Have a great weekend Paul, Jeff, Martika and all the rest of this great community.
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. It has been fun! Have a great weekend 🙂
Enjoy your weekend, Retro Hound!! I love your tastes in music!!
Jeff
Thank you Jeff!! You as well, and the feeling is mutual!
Have a great weekend too!
Thanks Martika!
