“Black On Black” is a single by Canadian recording artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and voice actress Dalbello born as Lisa Dal Bello. In 1986, Dalbello wrote “Black on Black” for the 9 1/2 Weeks soundtrack, and worked with other artists including Duran Duran’s John Taylor, Heart, the band Nena, Glass Tiger and their producer Jim Vallance.
“Black On Black” was also the first single taken from Dalbello’s fifth studio album “She” released in 1987.

Thanks so much for this. She also brings some backing vocals to Nena’s Feuer und Flamme/ It’s all in the game album. Also I’ve read that she made the translation of the whole album into English.

Thanks to this post I was able to track down (at last!) a video I saw once on an 80s music programme, All I could remember was the hairstyle, a possible Canadian connection, a slow motion freeze frame effect, and a very, very slight resemblance to a Laurie Anderson and Kate Bush type of track. As soon as I saw this post I thought, could that be the singer I’ve searched for? Turns out it is, and the video is for ‘Gonna Get Close To You’ so thank you DJPaul for helping to solve a decades-old mystery!

I don’t know this track at all, but in the write up when it mentions working with John Taylor, did he play on this?
Hope BTg is not contagious Jermajesty lol. Hope you are feeling better. John does not play on this single I think Dalbello worked with him on his first solo project. There is a sort of duran/power station connection on her album Bernard Edwards plays bass on some of the tracks 🙂
She also sings backup on John’s single “I Do What I Do” also from 9 1/2 Weeks soundtrack.

Oh Paul, I’m so glad you’re back today, hopefully feeling much better. I’m really excited to hear this 12-inch. I know the song from the 9 1/2 Weeks soundtrack, but I always get really jazzed to find out that there’s a 12-inch extended version. That soundtrack was one of my all-time favorites. I’ll have to break it out again and listen for nostalgia’s sake.

I disagree on the niceness of the lyrics in combination with sexual tension.
