Originally posted: October 15, 2010

“The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” is a 1985 song by American singer Cyndi Lauper. It was released as a single for the film The Goonies. It was her fifth Top 10 single on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #10 on July 12, 1985 after spending fifteen weeks on the survey.

Steven Spielberg had made Lauper the musical director for the Goonies soundtrack. She sought out new bands to be included on the project including her friends, The Bangles.

Lauper originally titled the song simply “Good Enough”, but it was changed by Warner Bros., who wanted the title of the film to be part of the song title for marketing reasons.

I want to really take the time and thank you for this post. It’s one of my all-time favorite pop and dance single from Cyndi Lauper. I think I must’ve missed the first time you posted this so I am glad that this got shared back with a much more meticulous touch to it this time around. Thank you so much Dj PaulT.

Love Cyndi Lauper and this song is a favorite! Thanks for your impeccable vinyl transfers, DJ Paul. They truly top CD quality. I was listening to your transfer of the “Open Your Heart” 12″ by Madonna and it is superb. Thanks again for sharing these tracks and your talent.

I’ve been thinking about this song for quite awhile Paul. Thank you for bringing it back. Arthur Baker was such a phenomenal remixer, and of course, those editors extraordinaire, The Latin Rascals. Although machine-gun edits and edits might be considered a staple to 1980’s dance culture, I still get so excited by them. I love the editors that play their edit breaks like drum fills. A lot of creativity, talent, blood sweat and tears went into the execution back then. Slicing up magnetic tape into tiny bits and splicing them back into an audio montage still boggles the mind.
