Counterfeit – The Good Samaritan (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1989

“The Good Samaritan” is the only single released by British band Counterfeit. With heavy synths and moody vocals, the track is very reminiscent of Depeche Mode and Camouflage. The single along with some demos were recorded at a converted greenhouse in Dagenham in the fall of 1989. Sadly the band never recorded a full album or any further singles.

Thanks Paul, I did not know this one yet.
And..
How come this cover gives a photography credit. Is it a picture of cardboard?
Strange world, the art industry.

There’s a comment from the frontman of Counterfeit on one of the YouTube copies of this:

Apparently they had some other stuff, and this 12″ was reissued on CD with an extra track.

What a great find! Thanks Paul. I never knew about this band. Interestingly one of the band members was Glen Wisbey, who later went on to form the band Blue October in the 90’s, which is a band that I’ve really liked for many years. Nice to see his earlier work from the 80’s.

The strangest thing of all is that the name of Martin Gore’s solo EP of the same year is also “Counterfeit”. Synth-man Glen Wisbey reappeared some years later joining the synthpop band Blue October. https://www.discogs.com/artist/143902-Blue-October

Wow Paul! That’s another great find for me. I love this song. Such a shame there was no remix. That was an amazing week with outstanding posts. I love this series so much. Thanks a million Paul for giving these hidden treasures another chance. They really deserve it.
Have a nice weekend

As you know Paul, I adore the musical tastes you possess. You and I share a lot, of which I’m so grateful for. It’s nice not feeling alone in the music I love. But, you have introduced so many “ear-tastic” records over the years and I am overjoyed. You actually remind me of Joseph Watt from Razormaid! He created a remix service of really eclectic music based on the music’s merit. You also have so many of the records with the original versions that Mr. Watt used to create his remixes with. I love this. You are this oasis in… Read more »

Wow, I’ve never even heard of this group. You must have spent a ton of money on the 12′ vinyl in the 80s!
