Clivillés & Cole – Pride (In The Name Of Love) (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1991

A. Front

Martin Luther King Jr. Day (US)

“Pride (In the Name of Love)” is a song originally recorded by Irish rock band U2 in 1984 Written about Martin Luther King, Jr.

In 1991, successful record producers and remixers Clivillés + Cole, released acover version of U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love)”, but it was the B-side song “A Deeper Love”, featuring vocals by Deborah Cooper (a long time Clivillés and Cole vocalist) and Paul Pesco that proved to be a hit, peaking at No. 15 in the UK. Deborah Cooper performed “Deeper Love” various times, including on Saturday Night Live with Clivillés and Cole’s C+C Music Factory. Both sides charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1992: “A Deeper Love” peaked at #44, while “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” reached #54. The video for these songs was actually one long featurette, beginning with “Deeper Love” and then continuing into “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” halfway through the video. The video was labelled “Pride (A Deeper Love)”. Some networks preferred to show the videos separately while others played the whole length. In 1992 as Clivillés + Cole an album was released called “Greatest Remixes Vol. 1” featuring remixes of other artist songs by the duo.

In 1994 Aretha Franklin covered “A Deeper Love” from the film Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. Franklin actually hired Clivillés + Cole to produce the album version as well as the remixes. Thus, the song was a hit for the duo twice in two different incarnations within a 3-year time span.

Hello,
thanks a lot for the work. I was actually looking for another version of this track (the one used by JD Samson-a deeper feeling mix-) and i ended on your site. This version will be great too. the C+C work is hard to find anyway (in flac or wav)even if you’re willing to pay.

Cheers! My rip of this has a serious digital squelch flaw in it. :-/ I’m replacing it with yours. 😉

Nice twist, Paul, venturing into 90s clubland.
I ain’t complaining, coz there’s a whole wealth of vinyl-only remixes to dive into for that decade!
As The Pointer Sister said, What A Surprise!
Thanks!

Around Europe A Deeper Love was huge, it became very fast a classic club anthem, was spinnin’ it for years. It just has those simple vocal phrases that are easy recognisable and got the crowd immediately involved. The C+C productions still sound top notch to me, shame that David Cole past away far to early. Pride (In The Name Of Love),not a bad track, but to me it sounded then just as a poor attempt to emulate those early 90’s mainstream Techno and UK rave & breakbeat tunes, and I played a lotta of them. It was some cRaZy RaViN’… Read more »

Pride (In The Name Of Love) is one of my all time favorite Clivillés + Cole tracks outside of Robi-Rob’s Boriqua Anthem. Pride I owned as a cassette single, which included a remix. Was never a fan of a Deeper Love though and to this day, I have to admit, it’s one of the few songs that I truly dislike. It’s too bad they never released more material.

Yes, “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” was certainly MY track!! I really preferred it to the flip-side. Paul, thanks to you, the song has been stuck in my head since yesterday. I absolutely love it. What an anthem. You are awesome for bringing this out. I am in ecstasy!

I bought this 12” back in 1991 – we played the hell out of the B-Side Mix of “A Deeper Love” at our house party`s. Not once did we ever play the A-Side!! LOL
Thanks for a great rip of “A Deeper Love” 🙂

I’m breaking into a sweat Paul!!! These are fantastic classics!! I love the Pride (In The Name Of Love) song so much. I was really into the techno thing and this had some banging beats!! I also love the flip-side as well. NKelly is right, there were so many mixes to these two tracks. I even have some of them on some remix services in my collection. The creativity back in the day was astounding!! Thanks for such a perfect song befitting Martin Luther King Jr. Day!!

In celebration,

Jeff

Nice. Always loved this track. Used to have it on cassette single and play it to death up loud in my car! ‘A deeper love’ is class. Think there’s many mixes in existance of both of these tracks.
