There is a wonderful documentary from 2015 called ‘The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead’ which is well worth checking out for the Captain Sensible interviews as well as all the rest (I am a fan of The Damned but even if you’re not then it is worth a watch, though how anyone cannot love their songs Curtain Call and Smash It Up is a mystery) – I was watching an episode of the epic surreal sci-fi series Legion and it featured a clip from the 12 inch mix of ‘Wot’ by Captain Sensible and it reminded me… Read more »

OMFG Paul – I LOVE Captain Sensible!! He seems such a fun, wholesome guy. A true punk.
I keep contemplating going to see The Damned now he’s back in them.

This is a great single, reminds me very much of Julian Cope’s (from Teardrop Explodes) 80s solo stuff.
Check out The Captain’s albums if you haven’t.

Also enjoy this Through The Keyhole episode where he was still living at his mum’s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENE9UawDafk

Paul! This is quite exciting for me because I only know the song ”
Wot ” and I’ve always been curious if he had anything else of note.l
Looking forward to the listen.

Jeff, he got most attention over here for his (some would say irritating) cover version of Happy Talk, which got him to Number 1. He also did an anti war song called Glad It’s All Over, which I loved as a kid.

This was all after he left The Damned though – check out their album Machine Gun Etiquette – it’s a punk classic!

And let’s not forget “Royal Rave Up“:
“My name is Andy
They say I’m randy…“
That topic seems to have become current again….

Sorry – just checked the timelines – he was still in the Damned when Happy Talk came out. What must the rest of the band thought. 😀
