“Lose Your Love” is a 1985 single by English synthpop duo Blancmange. The song was released as the second of three singles from the band’s third studio album Believe You Me.
After the previous leading single “What’s Your Problem?” peaked at #40 in the UK, “Lose Your Love” showed a big decline in Blancmange’s popularity, with the single peaking at #77 for a total of 2 weeks in the UK. It fared better in America, where it peaked at #2 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart.
In the official American Billboard Magazine of December 14, 1985, the song was listed under the Hot Dance/Disco section, based on club play and sales. The song was listed under “Breakouts”, explaining that the single had future potential, based on club play for the week.
In the 1986 Sci-Fi film Flight of the Navigator, Blancmange appear on David’s TV with the music video for “Lose Your Love” when he is introduced to music videos by Carolyn, played by a young Sarah Jessica Parker.
“Lose Your Love” was remixed for the single version, instead of using exactly the same version as the album version. The single’s B-Side was the instrumental album track “John”, also taken from Believe You Me. Like “Lose Your Love”, the track was also written by Arthur and Luscombe.
The single was released in the UK, Canada, Japan and all throughout Europe via London Records, whilst it was released in America through Sire Records.
In America only, a specially-priced maxi 12″ vinyl single featured the “Extended Version” of “Lose Your Love”, whilst the B-Side was by West India Company, a band relating to Blancmange, and featuring Luscombe. The track was an “Extended Version” of “Ave Maria”, featuring Vince Clarke as guest musician on pyrotechnics. “Ave Maria (Om Ganesha)” was originally the West India Company’s debut single in 1984.

What a tremendous song.
I bought a 12″ of this at Tower back in the 1980s. Same cover, same catalog number…but mine only runs 6:44! I have no idea which was issued first or if the change was made because one of them was considered a mistake.
A generous friend gave me a copy of the recent “The Blanc Tapes” box. Both long versions appear there with the 10 minute version referred to as “extended” and the 6 minute version as “This Club Mix”. Still have no idea why both appeared on otherwise seemingly-identical US 12″ pressings.
Blancmange 12″ = no failures. Their extented versions always hit the mark. Thank you for this. And i am excited to see more of them.

Just out of curiosity, is this one also transparent and/or colored vinyl? Because both my ‘Lose Your Love’ (with Blancmange megamix on the backside) and my ‘Ave Maria’ are. I never even saw this edition in shops.
This one is on black vinyl George.

Sure would be nice to see some (or all) of the remixes from Neil Arthur’s two singles from 1994’s “Suitcase” album (“I Love I Hate” and “One Day, One Time”). In particular the first of the two links below. I have all the rest of the 12″ and CD singles from that album but have never been able to find quality rips of the two below.

Now, could I put in a request? You’ve posted several Eurythmics singles, but do you have the 12″ of “Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)”? There’s an alternative mix on the “Savage” reissue CD, but the actual 12″ dance mix is rather hard to come by.

There were a lot of hype and rave reviews when Ave Maria was released in 1984. I remember it was even being picked as the single of the fortnight on Smash Hits magazine! Sadly, it didn’t live up to expectations chart-wise in the UK. I was mighty glad when it almost hit the top of the Club Play chart a year later in the US.
It features the flawless vocals of Indian Music Diva Asha, whom Boy George later engaged for his Jesus Loves You single Bow Down Mister. That was another corker!

It was a surprising flop given the involvement of Stephen Luscombe, plus the fact that Blancmange and Monsoon had helped bring Indian sounds to the UK charts. It’s all the more surprising, then, that Razormaid picked up on Ave Maria and remixed it – though they did remix a lot of Blancmange too, so maybe that’s the link.
In the UK (and Europe) the 12″ had John plus Mixing On The Ceiling – a hits megamix – on the flip. And West India Company’s album is worth a listen too.

For me, their best remix is Don’t Tell Me.
And if you’re planning to buy that, Paul, be aware that there are two different remixes for this single. I think the UK 12″ and US 12″ sport different remixes, but both just as brilliant!
The US mix off the US 12″ promo is the best I’ve heard. The UK 12″ mix is a bit more dub-like and kinda goes everywhere.
