Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting this. I still have this 12″ myself but no way to really digitize it to the level you are capable of. I did have a question though. Your Extended Vocal Version here does not have the voice saying Break, Break at the beginning. Rather, it starts right in with the drum machine. All other places I look such as youtube or compilations have that “Break, Break..” at the beginning. Could it be that the Italy release was slightly different in that regard?

Best Wishes,
Doug Kelly

Paul, you should give some time to his excellent Merge album from 1989. The ” its your time ” 2 x 12 pack has some of the best remixes from that year on.

Thanks paul, love some early NY Electro, so am curious to hear this – I’m sure I’ll know it when I hear it, but I think I’ve only seen Beat Street once. :O
(Breakin’ was more successful in the UK, and all the hits that came with it)

Just a few days ago I heard from a fellow DJ that he’s alive & kickin’, heaven’t been in contact with him for ages. I remember, as it was yesterday, listening to his radioshow 30 years ago! LOL when he was spinnin’ this track and his comment: “Arthur has outdone himself with this one”! I couldn’t agree more back then, and even less today. Breaker’s Revenge surely withstood the test of time. Excellent mixes which sound fresh even after all this years, just a legendary producer in full effect! Your 12″ copy must be in mint condition, the 24bit rip… Read more »

Then you were very lucky Paul, because Italian pressings are mostly awful in quality. Most Italian record plants used inferior recycled vinyl (cheaper) which gives additional clicks and nasty noise. And many many Italian records were spoiled by off centre pressings.
I have a lot of Italian pressings of Italian artists (I’m half Italian, half Dutch), so I am a connoisseur on Italian pressings (unfortunately). Let’s say that I have cursed A LOT while playing my new purchased Italian records after my Italian summer vacations in the 80’s.

Good Gosh Paul, I’m frozen in my seat after I found out what you posted today!! OMG!!! Arthur Baker (along with John Robie) are two of my favorite producers of all time and this 12-inch was one of my favorites. What a powerful machine record this is with fantastic vocal prowess from Gavin Christopher, intense Latin Rascal edits and samples from a few records Arthur Baker had a hand-on with, like Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and the vocal sample “Beat This!” from Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force’s “Looking For The Perfect Beat.” Oh, there’s… Read more »

Just listened to this “BEAST” of a record, and it is so thrilling and bad ass!! It was so electrifying hearing the dub and jazzy instrumental again after all these years. Thanks Paul for bringing them back to life. WOW!!! It all sounds amazing. Gavin Christopher really does a bang-up James Brown impression here. And the piano solo, phew!! And those strings too!! I’m in ecstasy with a body blush. Oh, I almost forgot the samples. They are (I think I know them all): “Funky Soul MaKossa” by Nairobi and the Awesome Foursome “Planet Rock” by Afrika Bambaataa & The… Read more »

Nice one Paul!
Talking about Gavin Christopher: he had an excellent (and underrated) single in 1986 called ‘One Step Closer To You’, which was remixed for the 12 inch release by Steve Thompson & Michael Barbiero. That’ll be a good next post to follow-up this one, Paul.
