Adam Ant – Vive Le Rock (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Vive Le Rock” is a song by English musician Adam Ant from his third solo album of the same name (1985). CBS Records released it as the album’s second single on July 1, 1985. That summer, Ant secured a spot at the Live Aid concert – the first live performance of the “Ant/Marco/Wiczling/De Niro” band – but was asked to cut his set to one song, for which he chose his new single, the “Vive le Rock”. The single, however stalled at #50 in the UK, in part due to a pressing error with many copies featuring the A-side track on both sides.

“Vive Le Rock” did not chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 but did make an appearance on the US dance chart peaking at #29.

The b-side Greta X is a track recorded by Adam in 1978.

Thanks, Paul! I remember having a recorded copy of this mix on cassette back in high school. When the 2005 remaster of “Vive Le Rock” was released, I was sad that it was edited down to 3:49. Thanks for reviving the real thing.

I added the 2005 remaster of ‘Vive Le Rock’ to my collection last year when I went through my Adam Ant phase. Great album, and I LOVE the song. Totally overlooked, in my opinion. I had no idea that this version which Paul has posted was edited on the 2005 remaster because I had never heard it before. I did find it strange that it was so short for a 12″ mix, and now I know why. 🙂 Thanks for the full version, Paul!

Thanks for this Paul…my plead for more Adam Ant was noted it seems! 🙂

One of the Rough Stuff 12″s next maybe??

Just a bit of clarification on the b-side Greta X if I may. Yes Adam (with the Ants) recorded demo’s of it in 1978 but the version on this release is a brand new recording contemporanious with the a-side and also recorded by the Ant/Marco/De Niro/Wiczling line up.

Keep burning that ground Paul!

Adam Ant could do no wrong in the UK from 1980 to 1982, from Dog Eat Dog to Goody Two Shoes. 1981 was especially stellar with Kings Of The Wild Frontier crowned as the Best Selling Album of the year, with Stand & Deliver and Prince Charming ending the year as the 2nd and 3rd Best Selling Singles (Tainted Love was #1 for 1981 btw). It was sort of downhill chartwise after that, with Puss N Boots (1983) his last Top 10 appearance, and Apollo 9 (1984) his last Top 20. It was only six years later that he returned… Read more »
