BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Vanity Kills” is a song by English new wave and synth-pop band ABC, released as the third single from their third studio album, How to Be a … Zillionaire! It peaked at No. 70 on the UK Singles Chart and reached No. 91 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Two music videos were made by the band ABC. The UK video shows the four band members moving against a dark background, using simple stop motion camera tricks.
The US version, directed by Peter Care, has a spoken prologue and epilogue, and presents Martin Fry and Mark White as noir detectives, investigating a variety of shady characters.

Astonishing, I can’t wait to hear this. It has never been released on CD and I’m guessing that the master was lost in time by Phonogram back in the day. There were rumours of found ABC masters some time back but nothing has resurfaced. I dream of a super deluxe edition of this album with Fear of the World in CinemaScope and in 5.1. It’ll never happen but dreaming in colour like the best things in life is free. Cheers Paul.
ABC was one of my favorites during high school. Thanks for another good one, Paul.
Great to hear again Paul thanks, would love a re-rip of Ocean Blue again if you had the time please.
Hooray! Awesome.
OMG! This is going to be so much better than my own crappy ion mp3 turntable rip! Thanks, Paul! There will be someday that you’ve made my vinyl collection obsolete.
You’re welcome 🙂
Always good to see a release by ABC. Many thanks Paul.

Hi paul, and the hits just keep coming, and continue. Another top 10 band of all time for me. Abc was at their peak with this album. I remember getting it and playing it nonstop that whole year. I heard how to be a zillionaire (wall street mix) on an urban music station way before the album came out. and then much later, the US got be near me, which was a huge hit for them again (after the earlier poison arrow, and look of love). but zillionaire was such a strong album, with tons of singles, and zillions of… Read more »
I love this remix and it is far superior to the US mix which I posted a while ago. The included megamix on that release was not the best either and left out most of the hits. I remember my friends and I loved the A to Z track. Great memories for sure.
It’s a real highlight for me whenever you post something that includes a Julian Mendelsohn mix. I love his mixes so much and can’t wait to check it out. Thanks very much Paul for bringing this to my attention.
Jeff
