The Fallout Club – Wonderlust (UK 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1981

“Wonderlust” was the third and final single released by The Fallout Club a British synthpop and new wave band formed by Irish singer Trevor Herion, the experimental drummer Paul Simon, Thomas Dolby on keyboards, and bassist Matthew Seligman released on October 19th, 1981.

The short-lived band only released three singles on Happy Birthday Records and split up shortly afterward. Dolby went on to have a successful solo career, Simon went to work with Glen Matlock, Seligman joined The Thompson Twins, while vocalist Trevor Herion released a handful of singles and an LP as a solo artist between 1982-1983. Sadly, those records failed to garner much attention, and Herion committed suicide in October of 1988.

It’s probably just me, but this song reminded me so much of “Send Me An Angel” by Real Life…

Many thanks for this. I think it is worth noting that Thomas Dolby actually produced both tracks. Wonderlust in particular has definite production similarities with some of Thomas Dolby’s solo work of this time (Europa and the Pirate Twins springs to mind).

This is such a great record, and both this and the Dream Soldiers 7″ have such top notch b-sides too. Wonderful to se it here. 🙂

I was hoping you might post some Fallout Club after the Trevor Herion posts recently.

Thanks Paul 🙂

Fantastic Paul! Thank you so much for this rare gem. The 12inch collection featuring Trevor Herion should be complete now so I can make my own special Herion compilation 🙂

hi paul,
i think this is the first time i recognize or had one of the
obscure 12 inches you posted.

i’m a huge thomas dolby fan, and try to get everything he has,
or has been involved with. he is so diverse, and has done so
many things with such a diverse number of people. so it gets
tricky.

fortunately, its not too bad finding most of the stuff on discogs,
or ebay. thanks for posting it, and take care.

Thanks for this lost treasure Paul!
How about some early Thompson Twins like Runaway?
Hope you’re feeling better.

Great suggestion, John. I love “Runaway”, which did absolutely nothing chart-wise, surprisingly.

Thanks! I’m a huge fan of both Thomas Dolby and the Thompson Twins, but never knew about this record with connections to both. Can’t wait to listen to this one!

What really interests me here Paul, is the Thomas Dolby input. Mr. Dolby is such a hero to me so I’m jazzed to hear his contribution. And I really dig the vocal talents of Trevor Herion. Thanks so much Paul for giving him tribute with all your posts. We’re quite lucky to have these rare records courtesy of you.
