BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984
“Dancing with Tears in My Eyes” is the second single from Lament, Ultravox’s seventh studio album, released in 1984. The single effectively put Ultravox back on the map, peaking at #3 in the UK single charts, and reaching the top 10 in many European countries. The “Extended” version which is featured on this 12″ is unique to this release.
The video is about a nuclear power plant meltdown. The music video depicts Midge Ure running home after discovering that a nuclear explosion is imminent. The video ends with the power plant exploding, and the image of a home movie of Ure, his wife and their child, with the visual effect of a melting film.
The US 12″ includes “One Small Day” which had previously been released as the first single from Lament. It peaked at #27 in the UK Singles Chart. The song is unusual for Ultravox in that it is mainly guitar rather than synth driven.
