“Surrealistic Pillow” was the third and final single released from Teena Marie’s eighth studio album “Naked To The World”. The album is a return to Marie’s Soul/Funk roots following the experimentation of her previous album Emerald City, which had been a critical and commercial disappointment. “Surrealistic Pillow” failed to make an appearance on any of the US charts and was only issued as a promo single.

“Square Biz” is a song by American R&B singer, Teena Marie. The song was released as a single in 1981 from the album It Must Be Magic.

The song managed to peak at #3 on Billboard’s Black Singles, becoming Marie’s highest peak on the chart at the time. The song also peaked at #12 on Billboard’s Club Play Singles, while performing moderately on Billboard’s Pop Singles, peaking only at #50, becoming her second single to chart on the Pop Singles chart.

RIP Teena

Mary Christine Brockert (March 5, 1956 – December 26, 2010), better known by her stage name Teena Marie, was an American singer, songwriter and producer. Marie, nicknamed Lady Tee, (sometimes spelled Lady T), was a protégée of funk legend Rick James. She played rhythm guitar, keyboards and congas. She also wrote, produced, sang and arranged virtually all of her songs since her 1980 release, Irons in the Fire, which she said was her favorite album.

“Lovergirl” was the lead single released from Tenna Maries sixth album “Starchild”, released in 1984. Following the relative commercial failure of her previous album, “Robbery”, “Starchild” became the highest-selling album of Marie’s career. It peaked at #9 on the US Black Albums chart and #31 on the Billboard Albums chart. “Lovergirl” became a major hit peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March, 1985 and at #9 on the R&B chart.

Teena Marie died on December 26, 2010 at her home in Pasadena, California.
