Spandau Ballet – Gold (Special Extended Remix) (US 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on 2nd August 2012

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

“Gold” is a 1983 single by the British New Wave band Spandau Ballet from their flagship third album True.

The song is Spandau Ballet’s 2nd best-charting single behind their previous release “True”, reaching #2 on the UK Singles Chart (being held off the top by KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Give It Up”), and #29 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 chart. A music video was created for the single, which contains the longest-held note by any male artist in any song released during the 1980s.

The music video was directed by Brian Duffy and filmed on location in Carmona, Spain. The video featured Sadie Frost as a gold-painted nymph in one of her earlier roles.

Spandau Ballet – Be Free With Your Love (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on 6th April 2012

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1989

“Be Free With Your Love” a great song with great lyrics. I thought it would be the perfect track for Good Friday and the Easter weekend. Enjoy!

After a hiatus from recording, during which Gary and Martin Kemp established themselves as credible actors in the gangster film The Krays, the band released Heart Like a Sky in September 1989.

The album was not widely released (not at all in the US) and was for the most part disregarded. It did, however, do well in Italy and Netherlands where the single “Be Free with Your Love” reached the Top 10. “Be Free With Your Love” peaked at #62 in the UK and #42 in Germany. Afterwards, Spandau Ballet, from whom Gary Kemp was already feeling estranged, split up.
