“Q” – The Voice Of “Q” (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on 12th May 2010

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982

Philly Worecords Jacket

Side One Label

The Voice of “Q” was a one-off project from the relatively obscure disco production team of Michael Forte and Bruce Weeden. Released in 1982 on the burgeoning Philly World International label, the track had a strong influence on the leftfield disco/electro  genre. With its ultra funky bassline and vocoder bits laid over a haunting synth melody, it made for something pretty original sounding.  This 12″ not only appealed to the new wave fashionistas of the time, but to B-Boys as well. Good luck finding this mega scarce 12″, and if you do track it down, expect to pay some coin for it. To the best of my knowledge these tracks have not appeared on CD.

Discogs Review
“One of the most awesome spaced out Disco trax of all time, and one of the most sought after, as well. Being quite similar to “Pluton & Humanoids – World Invaders” this cuddly classic provides us with funky basslines that could make Nile Rodgers feel ashamed and trippy sound effects that seem to be ahead of their time – the early eighties”.

** Please Note: I have preserved this 12″ as best as possible, you may hear some vinyl artifacts but they do not detract from the mixes, but sort of add to their character. As a purist I did not want to add further processing to the tracks, because doing this could damage or lower the quality of the recordings. I doubt you will find a copy that sounds as clean and brilliant as this transfer does, especially in flac lossless format. Please be sure to leave comments and let me know what you think.

This 12″ is one of my most valued gems and I am very happy to be able to share it with you. The Voice Of “Q” deserves to be heard. For those who have not heard it you are in for a treat.
