Menudo – Hold Me (US 12″ Promo)

Posted by DjPaulT on 25th August 2011

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

Menudo was a Puerto Rican boy band that was formed in the 1970s by producer Edgardo Diaz, releasing their first album in 1977. The band achieved much success, especially during the 1980s, becoming the most popular Latin America’s teen musical group of the era.

During its course, the band had several radio hits. Their success led them to also release two feature films: Una Aventura Llamada Menudo and Menudo: La Película.

The band was a starting point for stars like Ricky Martin and Robi Draco Rosa, who were members during their youth.

The group released three self titled albums in their history. The first one was in 1981 which was also released under the title “Fuego”.

The second one was Menudo’s 16th album (second in English) released in 1985 featuring Charlie Masso, Roy Rosello, Robby Rosa, Ricky Martin, and new Member Raymond Acevedo. Raymond replaced Ray Reyes after Ray had to be forced to leave the group because he grew too tall. Menudo’s management reported that the move had to be made because his height was making the group look uneven. This album contains 7 brand new songs plus 3 songs from their “Evolucion” album translated into English. It also features their only song to reach the Billboard Hot 100: “Hold Me”, which peaked at #62 on November 5, 1985 and featured lead vocals by Robby Rosa.

In 2010 “Hold Me” was voted the 27th gayest video of all time by the web site Oh No They Didn’t!.
