Man To Man – Energy Is Eurobeat (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on 20th January 2011

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

REQUEST

The Gay Club scene has always been heavily linked with the development of electronic, dance music and independent music making/distribution. “Male Stripper” by Man 2 Man (feat Man Parrish) was a small club hit that went huge back in 1986! Hi-NRG was the chosen genre and although hailing from New York the record was put out in England on Bolts records. The band was originally 2 brothers, Miki and Paul Zone. Miki died suddenly of spinal meningitis on New Years Eve 1986. After Miki’s death, Paul changed the name of the group to Man To Man. Paul continued recording, and “Energy Is Eurobeat” was a minor hit. On the B – side you get a cover of Grace Jones’s “I Need A Man” and a remix of “Male Stripper,” amusingly tagged, “A Julie Batten Bitchy Production recorded in her bedroom on a teasmaid”.

Man 2 Man Meet Man Parrish – Male Stripper (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on 4th January 2011

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

Man 2 Man (also known as Man to Man) were a US Hi-NRG band from New York City that formed in the early 1980s. They were best known for their hit single “Male Stripper”.

The act was composed of brothers Mikki and Paul Zone, who had been known on the local Brooklyn music scene since the mid 1970s. Paul participated in a band called The Fast during this period, with songs such as “Boys Will Be Boys”; the group gained some national attention with a second album being produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars.

After The Fast, the brothers spent the first half of the 1980s singing on a number of Hi-NRG and disco records for producers such as Bobby Orlando (records like Divine’s “Native Love” and The Flirts’ “Passion”). Soon after they formed a new band, which was originally called Man’s Favourite Sports. However, another band had already claimed the right to use this name, so the Zone brothers became known as Man 2 Man.

Under this name the band scored their biggest hit, “Male Stripper”, teaming up with cult electro producer Man Parrish. Originally released in the United Kingdom in 1986 on the Bolts Records label, “Male Stripper” was a big club hit throughout the autumn and peaked at #64 on the UK Singles Chart. In early 1987, “Male Stripper” charted again in the UK, and this time the song became an even bigger hit, spending five weeks in the Top 10 and two weeks at #4 on the UK Singles Chart. Unfortunately, this success was never seen by group member Mikki, who had died of spinal meningitis on December 31, 1986.

Due to the death of Mikki, Paul Zone decided to rename the act Man to Man.

Man Parrish (born Manuel Joseph Parrish, May 6, 1958) is an American composer, songwriter, vocalist and producer. He, along with artists such as Kraftwerk, Art of Noise, Arthur Baker, Afrika Bambaataa, John Robie, Jellybean Benitez and Aldo Marin helped create and define the sound of B-Boy electro of the early 1980s. He became an underground music scene icon in the 1980s and 1990s and is one of the most important and influential figures in American electronic dance music.
