BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

Happy Birthday Freddie Mercury! A day after what would have been Queen icon Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday, I decided to post this rare 12″. The mixes included here are only available on the US and Brazilian 12″ singles.
“Living on My Own” was originally included on Freddie Mercury’s first solo album Mr. Bad Guy. It was released as a single in September 1985 in the United Kingdom where it peaked at number 50. “Living On My Own” was also released in the US in July 1985 where it did not chart.
In 1993, almost two years after Mercury’s death, the No More Brothers Mix of the song was released and reached number 1 in the UK, becoming Mercury’s only solo number 1 hit. It remained at the top for 2 weeks and was in the charts for a total of 13 weeks.
The video for “Living on My Own” featured footage of Mercury’s 39th birthday party in 1985 in Munich.

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

In 1984, Fritz Lang’s classic silent sci-fi hit Metropolis was reissued in tinted color and sporting a rock and pop soundtrack. It immediately developed a cult following, with its blue, green, violet, and red tints, along with a host of songs written by famed disco producerGiorgio Moroder.
Queen frontman Freddie Mercury released “Lpve Kills” as a single and video to promote the reissued movie. Continuing the electronic experimentation Queen dabbled with on “The Works”, released that same year, “Love Kills” would have sat nicely on that album right next to “Radio Ga Ga.”
“Love Kills” peaked at #69 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and at #44 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play Chart as well as UK #40 in 1984.
