Camouflage – The Great Commandment (John Luongo Mixes) (US 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on December 20th, 2016

“The Great Commandment” is the debut single from German synthpop band Camouflage, taken from their debut album Voices & Images. The single had originally been recorded three years prior and was re-recorded in 1987, giving Camouflage their only number one dance hit. “The Great Commandment” stayed at the top spot for three non-consecutive weeks. The single became popular on independent stations and crossed over to the mainstream American pop charts, peaking at number fifty-nine in 1988. In their native Germany, “The Great Commandment” went to number fourteen, and reached the top ten in over twenty countries.

This US 12″ contains remixes by American dj/remixer John Luongo. I added as a bonus track the “Extended Radio Mix” which I transfered from the German 12″.

    Thanks for these mixes.
    With love from Berlin, Germany

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Ziv 🙂 Praying for the people of Germany.

  2. Jeff Says:

I did a double-take when I saw this one Paul because I thought you already gave it to us awhile back. It was then that I saw John Luongo’s name and got really, really, REALLY EXCITED!! I can’t wait to check this out. Ooh, I love me some surprises. I feel quite Christmas-y inside, despite not feeling all too well, like I’m coming down with something. You are so generous Paul in sharing the tracks that have slipped me by. You’re fantastic!!!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Yeah I posted the Justin Strauss remixes a while ago. I love the John Luongo mixes quite a lot. Hope you are not getting sick I will send you healing vibes. Take care of yourself 🙂

  3. Martijn van Heeringen Says:

Thanks! The 12 Inch and Extended Dance Mix I already had but not the dub!

  4. Omar Says:

I love this single. Thanks Paul.

  5. Time Operator Says:

Thanks Paul. One of my favourites from the late 80’s.

But I was wondering why John Luongo is getting all the credit here. If one reads the credit info on the back cover it appears that Gary Hellman did all the additional production work and remixing. And only the editing done by Hellamn & Luongo. I would think that this should be credited as the “Gary Hellman Mixes” rather than the “John Luongo Mixes”.

Unless of course the credit info on the back cover was incorrect.

  6. memoryboy Says:

This song is one of my favorites form the late 80’s. Camouflage had that distinct sound that also sounded a bit like Depeche Mode to me, and that’s a compliment,… thanks for this post! I have not heard these remixes before, only the ones you posted at an earlier date.

  7. Paul Says:

Very cool – this has always been one of my favourites despite being so reminiscent of Depeche Mode

  8. Regulo Says:

Man awesome thank you so much!!

Is there any chance to post any of those rare Xymox’s 12″ singles? thanks in advance
