Eurythmics – The King And Queen Of America (UK 12″)

A. Front

“The King and Queen of America” is a song recorded by pop music duo Eurythmics. It was written by group members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart and produced by Stewart with Jimmy Iovine. The track appears on their album We Too Are One and was released as the album’s third UK single in January 1990 peaking at #29.

The song’s music video showed Lennox and Stewart in a variety of costumes and settings which parodied various aspects of American pop culture, including a game show host and hostess, singing cowboy and cowgirl à la Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

Although not released as a single in the United States, “The King and Queen of America” received a fair amount of airplay on MTV.

Hot Dog Paul!! Love the Eurythmics so very much and I’m anticipating this dance remix with baited ears!! Thanks for adding to your other Eurythmics postings on BTG.

I hope you have a very nice weekend and that you have a fun time doing what you love most.

    DjPaulT Reply:

    Thank you.

It’s funny that this was a UK single and not a US single … because it was on the original Eurythmics Greatest Hits in the US and *not* on the UK version.

    Funny old record company decisions!

Not only did the US GH include this non-US-single, they omitted *five* tracks included on the original UK/world release (criminally excluding “You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart” — unacceptable!).

    DjPaulT Reply:

I agree Richard they reall messed up that Greatest Hits project it is a shame.

  5. Daniel Says:

Thanks Paul. I love this song. The Dub Mix is exclusive to this 12″. Have a great weekend.

    You’re welcome Daniel 🙂

  6. Stephen Says:

The under-appreciated “We Too Are One” is up there with “Savage” as being ignored. Probably feared by the label as sounding like Brits making fun of Americans to be released as a single? “Don’t Ask Me Why” is the killer track from this album. Thanks for another great rip (and hard-to-find b-side) Paul!

Hope your doctor visit was easy-breazey-happy-as-larry!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Savage and We Too Are One are my favorite albums there was so much creativity especially in the videos 🙂

I could listen to the opening “riff” of Beethoven (I Love To) on an endless loop. Such a funky sound!

  7. FoxySoxy Says:

Thank you so much for this record. There’s a bunch of Eurythmics songs released only on vinyl, never re-released on any CD – whole unique songs, alternate versions, mixes and dubs. I wish thed did proper job on their “complete” box, but they made some strange choices in tracklists (and artwork too).

  8. Michael Says:

    Oh yes 🙂
Paul, thank you so much for another briliant Eurythmics post. Everlasting music hits!!!
For so many years you have done a magnificent work! Thank you so much!!!!

  9. Michael Says:

Oh, if you ever should concider another Eurythmics post, then i suggest “(My My) Baby’s Gonna Cry”. You posted a promotion release of that song for a very long time ago. Not sure if it also was released as a 24 bit flac. In the beginning i only downloaded the mp3 version until i found out how it really should sound like 🙂 Your 24 bit flac is just amazing!!!!

  10. Jasons2 Says:

    Thank you very much Paul
