A. Front

“So This Is Love” is a single by English songwriter-producer Phil Thornalley. He is perhaps best known for co-writing (with Scott Cutler and Anne Preven) the Ednaswap song “Torn” (made famous by Natalie Imbruglia’s cover version) and the number one hits “Mama Do”, “Boys and Girls” and “Cry Me Out” for Pixie Lott. He has produced for The Cure and was their bass player for eighteen months. He was also a member of the English pop band Johnny Hates Jazz from 1988 to 1992.

I addition Thornalley remixed singles for Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Psychedelic Furs and Cyndi Lauper.

In 1983 “So This Is Love” was released as a one-off single on RIVA Records in Australia and the UK, the single failed to chart.

Impressive credentials Paul!!! And it’s a new discovery for me as well. I really like when you present singles that you’re passionate about because they usually turn out to be a brand new favorite. Thanks again for a new undiscovered classic as always.

Another one that I really love Jeff. It’s catchy and oh so 80’s 🙂

Thank u so much!! I’ve longed to get this song and the remixes to his single “Love Me Like A Rock” in CD quality versions!

I’m with Jeff. Mr. Thornalley has quite a pedigree, and I know much his other work, but I never knew he released anything under his own name. You really have to love this internet sometimes. Thank you, I’m looking forward to hearing this.

I think Phil is great! I’ve never really listened to much of his early work but he was great in Johnny Hates Jazz. The Natalie Imbruglia project was awesome (a project I worked on back in the day).

Thanks for the post as this one is actually very educational.

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome AnthonyC. What part did you have in the Natalie Imbruglia project?

  8. Arbor Says:

    Phil Thornalley at last yes!
His “Swamp” album is criminally underrated (“When I Get To Heaven” has to be my favorite from that album). Thanks for posting this early single, I hadn’t listened to it before.
