David Bowie – Time Will Crawl (US 12″)

A. Front

“Time Will Crawl” is the second track on David Bowie’s album Never Let Me Down and was issued as the second single from the album. The single was a minor hit, breaking into the top 10 charts in the US.

The song is generally considered the best song from an otherwise poorly received album, and in 2008 Bowie named the track as one of his favorites of his entire career.

The song was written about the pollution and destruction of the planet by industry (Bowie has cited hearing of the Chernobyl disaster in April 1986 as the genesis of the lyric). In an 1987 interview, Bowie said the song “deals with the idea that someone in one’s own community could be the one responsible for blowing up the world.” Bowie also stated at the time that it was his favorite song from the album, and later put the song on his list of all-time favorites by including a newly remixed version of the song (the “MM Remix”) on his iSelect album.

The b-sdie “Girls” is a non album track written by David Bowie and Erdal Kizilcay. The song was also recorded by Tina Turner for her album Break Every Rule.

What a fantastic way to wind up the week and your two weeks of David Bowie posts Paul. It has meant so much to all of us, this labor of love you did; such a tribute to the man who made so many of us very, very happy. I can’t thank you enough for all the love you squeeze out from all these 12-inches. You are a wunderkind and it makes me so proud to know you.

    Have a wonderful weekend!!

Thank you again Paul for this great post. A great Bowie song which deserved much more success. Just heard about the death of another 80’s star: Colin Vearncombe alias “Black” who had a big hit with “Wonderful life” back in 1987. I still love this song. Much sad news in these days…
But no matter, because I have you, Paul with your wonderful blog. You give me so much joy every day that I can always say: no need to run and hide it’s a wonderful, wonderful life!(lyrics from “Wonderful life”)
    Have a great weekend

Thanks to Mr. Bowie I have discovered so many new superlatives in the English language.
This is another magnificent production for a song of the highest order!
I always had the suspicion, but after hearing the Japanese version of Girls I’m sure,
David Bowie is an extra-terrestrian! My praises go to Paul for reminding us of that.

  11. danino Says:

    Thanks for all your rips.
Hope to see the UK remixes og this too, very hard to find in good quality (Dance crew mix) 🙂

  14. Lee Says:

Time Will Crawl is such a great track, I don’t know why it wasn’t that popular way back in 87, it was a minor hit, and the album got poor reviews, I personally liked the album, and the first album I ever bouight of David Bowie at the time.
Paul, again you’re doing a great job, fantastic quality as always.
