Oingo Boingo – Dead Man’s Party (US 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on October 26th, 2015

A. Front

“Dead Man’s Party” is a song by American band Oingo Boingo released as the third single from their fifth studio album Dead Man’s Party.

The lyric “I hear the chauffeur coming to my door/Says there’s room for maybe just one more” is a reference to “The Bus-Conductor”, a short story involving a hearse driver by E. F. Benson, published in The Pall Mall Magazine in 1906. The story has been adapted several times and spawned an urban legend, with each version using the catchphrase, “Room for one more.”

The song is perhaps best known for its appearance in the 1986 film Back to School and its accompanying soundtrack; Oingo Boingo appears in the film performing the song.

Paul, you are thrilling me!! This is a great way to start the week leading up to Halloween. Man, I’ve been looking for a clean rip of the “Party ‘Til You’re Dead” mix for ages. I think Joseph Watt (from Razormaid! Productions) did a nice job on the mix. Much different than the LP mix, which on initial hearing, I wasn’t sure I liked it. But, the more I heard the thing, the more it would grow on me. I really love the epic length of this version and it really is a fantastic remix. And wow, I really love the “Stay Late Mix” of “Stay” too. Thanks so much for making this a reality Paul. You have given so many of these great Halloween themed tracks over the years and I am most grateful. It’s a hobby of mine to collect and cultivate dance versions of the music I love to play on Halloween. You’ve made it a reality for me and words alone can’t express the gratitude I feel for you. My heart is so full of love and devotion for you and your stellar sonics. You’re all about the treats DjPaulT. The only tricks are the mix tricks like multi-edits and dub version insanity. You’re the tops my friend!! Have a fantastical week Paul!!

Excellent post, Paul! I actually have this 12″ “Party ‘Til You’re Dead Mix” on a CD box set called, “Classic Alternatives”. It’s an excellent mix! One of my favorites. However, I have never heard this mix of “Stay” until now. “Stay” is one of my favorite Oingo Boingo songs, and this mix is excellent! Thank you for your excellent transfer and remaster!

Hi Paul, I agree with Bellenger1981.
“Stay” has got an excellent remix by Arthur Barrow!
I hope that one day (if you got) you’ll post “Rico Mambo” by Breakfast Club,
    also remixed by Him!

    many thanks.

Hi Paul, thanks for this. Love these guys and wish they were still together. I know there have been various side projects and many of the band members are still active (especially Danny Elfman), but Oingo Boingo always brings a smile to my face and they will be missed. Not sure if I have these remixes, so this is a treat. I heard their Halloween shows were legendary and always wished I could have seen them in concert. Guess that will have to wait until time travel is invented (no wait, legalized). Thanks again for another nostalgic flashback. You still keep bringing the joy.
