“Cool It Now” is a 1984 hit single by R&B/pop group New Edition, and is the first single from their eponymous second album, New Edition. The song peaked at #4 in January, 1985 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

With the group now signed to MCA Records, “Cool It Now” (and the album from which it came) was given more extensive and widespread promotion than any single from their previous album (which had been released through a smaller, independent label), and helped bring the group a bigger fan base. The song was the group’s first top 10 pop single, peaking at number four on the pop chart, and their second number one R&B hit.

The song is notable for a midsection rap recited by lead singer Ralph Tresvant, which calls out the rest of the group: “Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, and Mike.” In later years the rap has been changed to include “Johnny” for the last member to join, Johnny Gill, either including his name as a fifth name called out or replacing “Bobby”.

Definitely a guilty pleasure Paul! This is something really sweet to savor after a long day at work. I hope you had a good weekend. I kept on thinking of you because I know how depressed you were on Friday working so hard on the Laura Branigan single. I love how the group cares about you deeply and their comments were quite touching and full of support. You must realize how much we respect, care and love you. You do so much for us and we all agree that you are our audio angel!!

    Big Hug!!

Paul!! You are so good in that you always come up with an appropriate song for certain occasions. It was such a tragedy concerning Bobbi Kristina, Whitney Houston’s and Bobby Brown’s daughter. So nice to post a track with her dad on it. You are wonderful.

    DjPaulT Reply:

It was actually a coincidence Jeff. I had no idea that she had passed away until after I posted this. Very sad news.

I believe that you are incredibly in tune with things around you. Your sensitivity to people and their feelings is astounding Paul. So many times you post things that I’ve only just thought about. Very good vibrations abound here on Burning The Ground. I appreciate your empathy to those who adore you.

Strange coincidence timing wise what with Bobby’s daughter dying in the last 24 hours. RIP Bobbi Kristina. Do you have ‘Candy girl’ by any chance, Paul?

The requests keep comin’! Looking forward to hearing the mixes. Thank you

  5. Thomas Says:

Nice one Paul. Appreciate all the fine work you do. Love the M&M mixes. Would you happen to have the RFTW – Oh Sheila M&M mixes released in Europe and exclusive to vinyl? Would be nice having them ripped as only you can 🙂

  6. Davos Via 45 Says:

Was not interested in this “children” songs, but much more in their other, later productions of this extremely talented group of people.
What a tragic sequence of events, first Bobby destroys his and Whitneys life with drugs and then tragedy after tragedy. Good looking, rich, famous, successful, and then self destruction. I’ll never understand what a shame, what a waste…Just yesterday I watched an interview with Mike Baker, Whitneys longtime producer and friend, he was praising her wonderful personality.

Love it! Always has got me!
