“Hit Me with Your Best Shot” is a song written by Canadian singer/songwriter Eddie Schwartz, and recorded by American singer Pat Benatar in 1980. In 1980, it was released as the second single from her second album Crimes of Passion. It hit #7 in Cash Box, and reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first Top 10 hit.

“Hit Me with Your Best Shot” sold well over a million copies in the US, achieving a gold certification by the RIAA. The song is one of Benatar’s most recognizable.

**The 7″ single contains a slightly remixed version with more prominent guitar not heard on the album release. This has not appeared on CD as far as I know.

Thanks – I have this 7″ and burned my own copy of it, but you always go above and beyond and make it sound so great. The only time this song has been released on CD is on the UK version of Best Shots which came out in 1987 (two years before Best Shots was released in the US)

The 45 mix of “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” is also available on “The Very Best Of Pat Benatar”, a single disc compilation of Benatar hits released on Chrysalis in Europe in 1994. To the best of my knowledge the 45 mix of “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” has yet to appear on a Benatar compilation in the U.S.

Regardless, thank you Paul for sharing this rare mix.

Beat me to it; I was just going to mention the international “Best Shots” release also; I re-ripped my AU release to check and it’s definitely the single version.

How do you ever sleep Paul? You’re always working on something which I find mind-boggling. You’re just so generous (and serious about your art)and we all benefit from all the hard work you do. I just can’t thank you enough for all these endeavors into music.

    Humbly,
