“Let Me Go” (labelled as Let Me Go! on the sleeve of the single) is a single by Heaven 17, taken from (and released several months before) their second album The Luxury Gap. It actually first appeared on the band’s American self-titled compilation, Heaven 17, which was released in 1982. It reached #41 on the UK singles chart, the lowest chart placement among the singles from that album but their highest at the time of the single’s release.

The song also spent five weeks at #4 on the American dance chart in 1983. Allmusic cites it as “a club hit that features Glenn Gregory’s moody, dramatic lead above a percolating vocal and synth arrangement.”

It was one of the first commercial releases to feature the Roland TB-303, a bass synthesiser which later played a pivotal role in the later acid house movement.

The song appeared at #81 on Q101 Top 500 Songs of “All Time”

Awesome. Love H17. Seen them live a few times since their gig pairing with the even better The Human League on the Synth City tour (i think) a few years back

    DjPaulT Reply:

Sounds like a cool show Neil 🙂

Thanks Paul. This Is my favorite H17 single along with Foolish Thing To Do with Jimmy Ruffin.

    You’re welcome Omar 🙂

  3. Jeff Says:

Oh this song!! Probably my favorite Heaven 17 single of theirs! It has always haunted me with its great vocals and that bubbling Roland TB-303 in the mix. They used to play this song on the old disco station 92 KTU back in the day. The station was moving away from disco and more into progressive sounds like this song. KTU really shaped my love for dance music, first with disco and then on to alternative and New Wave. Yes, this song really was the gateway progression to my love of synth-pop. So divine of you Paul to bring it to us with such impeccable sound. You are a triumph!

    Big Hug!!

    DjPaulT Reply:

There were some great radio stations back in the day. There are not any like that anymore. Enjoy Jeff 🙂

  6. BE.D12'' Says:

    Great re-rip Paul,thanks.
Have you got also the european 12″ with the long instrumental version of 5.59″?
Now I’ve been waiting for the re-rip of the original 1983 “Send me an angel” by Real Life,
    another great synth-pop.

    DjPaulT Reply:

you must have read my mind BE.D12” Real Life is planned for tomorrow 😉

    Jeff Reply:

    OMG!! You’re the greatest Paul!!!

    Davos Via 45 Reply:

LOL, its gettin’ spooky around here, I just wanted to ask about the 5.59 instrumental listed on some 12″s!!!!!!! The 4.54 dub version is the same as the 4.54 instrumental on the Deluxe CD Edition of The Luxury Gap album. Is the 5.59 inst. just a longer version of the 4.54 inst. or a completely different version?

  7. Thomas Says:

    Thank you Paul. Great tune.

  8. Charly Says:

    Eternally grateful,
I’ve been waiting for this a long time ago
    and patience has paid off.

“The full fruit of a labor of love lives in the harvest, and that
always comes in its right season …“

  9. Davos Via 45 Says:

That’s what I love especially about some of those 80s tunes, they give me the same goose bumps as the first time I heard it so many years ego! Moody and dramatic is the right description for this one, Let Me Go, just won’t let me go, it just goes on and on…
But then, a miracle, cold ending, no long stupid fade outs! Cool! LOL
Nothing to choose between the 3 versions, all 3 are awesome in their own way! As BTG is.

  10. Junior Says:

    Thanks Paul 🙂

I hope you find time to repost Penthouse & Pavement in future, perhaps?

  11. bobbih2 Says:

Marvelous Heaven 17 selection! Thanks so much!

  12. Modernaire Says:

Super! Thank you for reposting and reading the requests in the original!
