A. Front

“Love Is a Battlefield” is a million-selling, gold hit performed by Pat Benatar, and written by Holly Knight and Mike Chapman. It was released as a single from Benatar’s live album Live from Earth.

The single was Benatar’s second American million seller and is tied with “We Belong” as her highest charting single in the United States. It topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for four weeks and peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1983.

It topped the Australian singles chart for five weeks in 1984. The song was re-released in the United Kingdom in March 1985 and reached #17. It was awarded a Gold certification in Canada as well. It was featured in the television series Psych and Drop Dead Diva and in the film 13 Going on 30. The single was unlike most of Benatar’s previous work, as it featured an electronic dance element, but guitars and drums were still present. In 1984, the song won Benatar her fourth consecutive Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

Great way to start the week Paul with this Pat Benatar single. I always love these 12-inches with mixes I’m not overly familiar with. Jellybean was an excellent remixer, so I know this will sound wonderful, especially with you doing the vinyl rip. You’re the Master Blaster in my book with phenomenal results.

hi there Dj PaulT, apologize for being a quiet and rather absent fan on here but I really appreciate seeing this post on here. Love is a Battlefield is one of my favorites and it sure brings me back to that fun dance number in the video. Thank you very much. 🙂

FINALLY, oooh oooh oooh, was waiting for this one a LONG LONG time. Very very happy to have the instrumental too in Paulity. You made my day Paul, thank you very much!
I really really really really hope you’ll re-rip the other Pat Benatar 12 inches too, because they need to get the OM30 treatment (apart from the fact that it’s her 35th anniversary this year).

I love your enthusiasm Stefano and your word to describe Paul’s awesome rips, “Paulity”. It says so much. And I would love Paul to re-rip those Benatar classics as well. Especially her “Sex As A Weapon.” That remix and flip-side are terrific!!!

I really do hope he re-rips his whole Pat Benatar collection with his OM30-stylus. It produces far better reproduction than the old OM20-stylus, because of the special shape of the diamond. You should hear the difference!

It would also be very appropriate, because this year she’s celebrating her 35th anniversary with a new US tour (plus a new compilation). So Paul, let’s start the show 🙂

Thank you Paul. Marvelous to hear all those obscure versions and listen to them with older ears. Like this instrumental, never heared it before. Always hoped to find it, because, honestly, some pophits liked then, but they were overplayed. Now I prefer to dicover the layers in the instrumental 🙂 then associate it with the then enormously popular video. (Wondered why they bluntly cut the intro, when it is 12”, I always like my intro’s full length, and the endings not to be a fade out, but weaj, who am i 🙂
But i get the point for the fans of Pat herself, and appreciate the little vocals there are on the instrumental. The 12” was a mega-club-success in NL where I live so i think you will have a nice traffic from here, too 😉

It’s just a timeless pop song, nothing can beat that!
Nice remixes by Jellybean, just slight changes in the arrangement, he manages to make the new versions interesting but keeps full respect to the original song. Thumbs Up!

    DjPaulT Reply:

I agree Davos love that Jellybean didn’t go crazy with the mix 🙂

Probably my favorite Pat Benatar song. The rythm section on this mix is just over the top. I’ve never heard the bass and drums drive so hard, the energy on the drums is especially song.

Mix in Pat’s haunting vocals, filled with emotion and gravitas. Boy it just doesn’t get any better than this. Thanks for another gem!

    Hello,

Hope your recuperation goes well. Is there a 7 or 12″ edit of Pat Benatar’s “We Belong”?
