Although not as immediately catchy as yesterday’s “Love Tumbles Down,” I like this song. Such a different feel, but I can see it growing on me more and more through subsequent plays. Paul, you’re so good to present us the band’s discography so far and I’m looking forward to the single that you’ll be posting sometime in the future. So happy that you’re here for us to get such fantastic music in such pristine condition. It’s so rare to get “lost treasures” that come out so “polished” and beautiful sounding. I relish my time here because of the care that you bestow on to your records. You, as I’ve repeated many times before, are a true audio GOD!! So many memories you bring back, even better than they were the first time around, and the goosebumps you leave me with pump me up so much with pride and adoration for all that you do.

    Sincere Thanks,

    Jeff

Oddly enough, I think the “B”-side of this one (“After The Ship Goes Down”) is catchier than the “A” side…

It really is a shame these guys didn’t stick together long enough to record a whole album; they had a lot of potential, if these four tracks are anything to go by…

    Jeff Reply:

    To The Doctor,

I couldn’t agree with you more about the “B”-side. A lot of times, I almost prefer the flips to the “A”-sides. And once again, thanks for the lyrics. Paul’s postings always brings out the best in his followers, with comments, trivia and other things we all find interesting. Great place here.

    Thanks again,

    Jeff

I didn’t think much of yesterdays track (bland), but this surprises me, that it wasn’t at least a minor hit, but then not all records are hits! (good, bad or somewhere in between).

Thanks as always for the rip, Paul 🙂

Is that Gary Tibbs from Adam & the Ants?! On that note, you wouldn’t happen to have Merrick & Tibbs “Call of the Wild”?

    Eyes of the World
    ———————————————
At the end of the day you found yourself falling
Into another world where your love(*) slipped away with the wind
Beaches and pearls, where she chose the diamonds
    And you got the girl

Take a look at Monday morning
And you tell me that her heart can fall
So if it’s love that’s lost between us
It’s better than no love at all

When you look into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it turn your heart inside out?
    Into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it make you scream and shout?
You wonder why you’re holdin’ on
    You’ve got to be strong
To look into the eyes of the world

Hope on its way, the newspapers tell me
But what can you say, when it’s all the same
Show me the day when love was the answer
If love’s nothing, then nothing remains

If you never heed the warning
Then you’ll never hear the call
So if it’s love that’s lost between us
It’s better than no love at all

When you look into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it turn your heart inside out?
    Into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it make you scream and shout?
You wonder why you’re holdin’ on
    You’ve got to be strong
To look into the eyes of the world

If you never heed the warning
Then you’ll never hear the call
If it’s love that’s lost between us
It’s better than no love at all

When you look into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it turn your heart inside out?
    Into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it make you scream and shout?
You wonder why you’re holdin’ on
    You’ve got to be strong
To look into the eyes of the world

When you look into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it turn your heart inside out?
    Into the eyes of love
Through the eyes of the world
Does it make you scream and shout?
You wonder why you’re holdin’ on
    You’ve got to be strong
To look into the eyes of the world
Into the eyes of the world…

(* this might be “young love” or “young blood”, but “your” seems to fit better with the rest of the verse… )

    ———————————————
    After The Ship Goes Down
    ———————————————
    Get up, get out
    Wake up, good morning
Welcome to the week that was
    Stand up, stand out
Stiff upper lip, me and the boys
    Don’t mess with us

    We took control
    When you looked away
    Gave the orders
    For you to obey
    Once more into the breach
    On Victory Day
We took our flag and we raised it
On the wrong side of the line

    Love’s out of sight
    Love’s out of mind
    To you returning
    Wrong side of the line
    They won’t tell you when
    They won’t tell you why
    It’s your bridge they’re burning
Taken in, taken out, takin’ it too far
On the wrong side of the line

    Get up, get out
Midnight raiders on the march tonight
    Stand up, stand out
Pick up your shoes, kiss goodbye while
    We smash the line

    Follow the rules
And you won’t lose your way
    You raised your voice
    Now we’ll make you pay
    We walk on water
    But you’ll drown today
    Miracle work we learned
Livin’ on the wrong side of the line

    Love’s out of sight
    Love’s out of mind
    To you returning
    Wrong side of the line
    They won’t tell you when
    They won’t tell you why
    It’s your bridge they’re burning
Taken in, taken out, takin’ it too far
On the wrong side of the line

    Once more into the breach
    On Victory Day
Maybe we’ve been too long workin’
On the wrong side of the line

    Love’s out of sight
    Love’s out of mind
    To you returning
    Wrong side of the line
    They won’t tell you when
    They won’t tell you why
    It’s your bridge they’re burning
Taken in, taken out, takin’ it too far
On the wrong side of the line

Gosh! this is not “After the ship goes down!this is “The Wrong Side of the Line” the sleeves are missprinted i’ve looking this tune for years!

    The Doctor Reply:

I just figured it was one of those songs where the title has nothing to do with the actual lyrics. 🙂

  11. mono Says:

Yay for obscure, underrated New Wave/Synthpop in high quality! 😀
I just noticed something strange, it seems the sleeve has a mistake, “After The Ship’s Gone Down” in this 12″ is actually another track called “On the wrong side of the line”, the 7″ of this release contains the real “After The Ship’s Gone Down”, which is a slow piano ballad.

Looking forward to the rip of “Big Boys”, it’s so obscure it’s not even listed on discogs yet.

    julio aguilar Reply:

you’re right Mono…”After” is an slow tune released only on the 7″ single..there are a mistake on the sleeves of the 12″ but “Wrong Side of the line” really rocks!

  12. Dana Says:

Thanks for posting these Zu Zu Sharks singles. I actually never realized that Richard was in Living In A Box (probably because I loathe that single), and was first made aware of his work when he sang “Early In The Morning” on a British Electric Foundation record. I then saw his name pop up time and again as a writer (Level 42, Lisa Stansfield). But, digging these ZZS singles, I think I owe LIAB a second listen (or more). Thanks again. And, from one Aquarian to another, have a great b-day weekend.
