Eurythmics – The Walk (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on December 3rd, 2014

A. Front

“The Walk” was Eurythmics’ fourth single, produced by band member David A. Stewart and Adam Williams (ex-bassist of The Selecter), self-funded at Eurythmics own 8-track home studio. As with their previous three singles, it was a commercial failure, reaching only #89 in the UK Singles Charts.

All the non-album tracks from this single were omitted from Sony BMG’s remastering of 2005, and remain unavailable on CD. “Invisible Hands” had been the working title for what became the group’s Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) album, but in the end was dropped from the album altogether.

    Thank you very much Paul!!!

Just curious, no Sweet Dreams 12” is available on LP?

    DjPaulT Reply:

I have a 12″ of it but not sure if it’s a remix or not Gonzalo76.

    Jonathan Reply:

The 12″ is around 1:15 longer than the album version. Oddly, this longer version was used for the 7″ in France.

    Silver Blue Reply:

there is a 12″ version of Sweet Dreams — on the 12″, and strangely enough, it was released on the original Eurythmics Greatest Hits CD (not the Ultimate Collection, however). It clocks in at 4:54.

    You’re welcome Tony 🙂

    Wow, thanks!
I don’t suppose you also have the 7″ remix + b-side for this rarity?
And/or the demo ep cassette that came with some early single?
    Please, I hope! 🙂 thanks.

  5. Joey Says:

Thanks again, my copy of this was well used by the time I got my hands on it.
The 12″ mix of Sweet Dreams was used on the Greatest Hits CD released around ’91. Basically the instrumental bridge repeats on the 12″ mix. More of a re-edit than anything else. I think “Love is A Stranger” 12″ is also the same as the album version, the b-side “Lets just Close Our Eyes” is also an alternate version of “The Walk.”

    Jonathan Reply:

Love Is A Stranger wasn’t extended, though the Hot Tracks DJ service did their own re-edit, which is pretty good.

Thanks Paul – a great track and a super-rare 12″ that still sells for quite high amounts due to its exclusive bonus tracks. I love these weird early experimental Eurythmics tracks. ‘Invisible Hands’ is outstanding!
