Re-Rip Newly Remastered!

Originally I posted this one on October 31, 2011. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon Super 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time using the Ortofon Super OM 30 stylus!

“Eight Arms to Hold You”‘ was a song recorded for the soundtrack to the film The Goonies. The song was recorded by a studio group called Goon Squad that was put together by producer Arthur Baker. It was utilized in a scene in the film where the character Data puts a loud tape recorder (blaring the song) into the mouth of an octopus to fend it off. The scene was deleted from the film and the song did not appear in the theatrical release. (The song is still heard, although barely audible, during the scene when Chunk first enters the Walsh residence). The “octopus scene” was replaced for broadcast on the Disney Channel, in order to make up for time removed due to objectionable content. It was also included in a deleted scenes featurette in the 2001 DVD release. The soundtrack producers had anticipated the track would be a big hit and so even though it wasn’t actually in the film, a single was released on both 12″ and 7″ vinyl.

“Eight Arms” debuted on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart on July 27, 1985 and spent twelve weeks on the survey reaching the #1 spot on September 14, 1985. The single also reached #80 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart.

I am bowled over Paul with excitement!!! I mean, first you give us “Breaker’s Revenge” yesterday (and I still haven’t come down from my high over that one yet!!) and now today, it’s “Eight Arms To Hold You” by the Goon Squad!!! I think I’ve lost control over my bladder!!! I JUST CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!! Do you know when I first found out about Burning The Ground from the New Wave Outpost (I owe that site a tremendous debt of gratitude for referring me to your site) this was the first record I saw on your Artist Archive Search that I wanted to download? I was so sad that it wasn’t available. Now, it is, and I’m besides myself. What a powerful record this is. AND you’ve given us the dub and the bonus beats which have never been available on CD before. I am so thrilled. This track has the best production on it. Jimmy Bralower’s percussion really turns it out!! Isn’t he the same guy who did that BOOMING percussion on Power Station’s records? He is outrageous!! And of course Tony and Albert (The Latin Rascals) did killer edits on this record too. Man, I am about to swoon Paul. Thank You! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!!

It’s like the perfect record to start October with because of Halloween. You absolutely RULE DjPaulT!!! I can’t wait for others to hear this track who have never had the opportunity to do so. You guys are in for a stunning treat. Forgive the pun, but this record is gonna grab you and hold you and relentlessly pull at your dancing feet. WOW

Hehee, I think I missed this first time around, but I just gave this a spin – I didn’t know it but it’s pretty funny. 🙂 Thanks.

I seem to remember Arthur Baker did a remix (or perhaps *the* mix) of The Art of Noise’s Dragnet film theme tune in 1988. I think that’s where I first heard of him.

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Jermajesty. You are correct Mr. Baker did the Dragnet mixes for Art Of Noise I think I have it here somewhere 🙂

Very cool! This is one download that I missed the first time around because the link went dead. I grew up with The Goonies and always enjoy soundtrack music. Love the beat on this track! Thanks for the rip! 🙂

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Woz glad you were able to get it this time around. I assure you it sounds much better than my first rip 🙂

It does sound good for sure. I have already listened to and enjoyed it!

Data really saved the day with his walkman and quick thinking!

WOW! I used to borrow The Goonies soundtrack on vinyl from the library when I was younger and was kind of obsessed with this track. I completely forgot about it though. Since I had such a fond memory of that soundtrack I grabbed this download and from the second it started playing, it all came back to me! Thank you so much for bringing this back into my life. Great track!
