3 Speed – Once Bitten (US 7″ Promo)

Posted by DjPaulT on October 15th, 2014

A. Front

“Once Bitten” is the title track of the 1985 horror/comedy film of the same name. “Once Bitten” was performed by Synth rock band 3 Speed. The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts, USA led by frontwoman Linder Chase.

The band was discovered after their manager sent a demo tape to a studio in Los Angeles, completely unbeknownst to the band members. An executive was listening to their demo tape on a radio on his desk when Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. walked by, heard Linda Chase singing, and said that he wanted the band on a plane the following weekend.

In addition to “Once Bitten,” another song by the band called “Stop Talking About Us” was used by MCA/Curb Records on the aforementioned soundtrack. This song was not written for the movie, but was actually a demo that the band had previously recorded. The version that appears on the soundtrack album is the demo.

3 Speed enjoyed considerable success after the release of the Once Bitten soundtrack; at one point they were even opening for Pat Benatar. MCA Records, however, never petitioned the band to record a full-length LP, commissioning them instead to write songs for more soundtracks, including those for Rad and Savage Streets.

Chase continues to write & perform music and work in recording studios.

This US only 7″ promo contains the same track on both sides.

Wow Paul. I’m so looking forward to hearing this track. In college, our radio station had the soundtrack album and I remember playing it sometimes, but I can’t really recall how this track goes. You’re amazing in that you find tracks that fit perfectly for this time of year. I hope the track wasn’t too much for you because you should be resting. Anyway, thanks for this one.

Thank you Jeff. This is probably one of my favorite singles/songs I had a really hard time finding it. This one is pretty rare especially the promo. It was pretty easy since it was only one track. Hope you like it. Thank you for being concerned I appreciate it a whole lot 🙂

Cool post – I love this song! 3 Speed rules! This movie is silly and fun, and the great music on the soundtrack made it even better. The dance sequence to ‘Hands Off’ by Maria Vidal (another BTG favorite) is pretty good, haha. Gotta love those 80s movie dance sequences!

    Thanks, DjPaulT! <3

Thank you Woz I love that dance segment too. So much fun and I think it was Jim Carrey’s first film.

Very cool! Wishing you all the best during your treatment and (full) recovery.

    Thank you Tim 🙂

The singer put this song up on YouTube. She spells her name as Linder Chase.

    DjPaulT Reply:

Thanks David I corrected her name 🙂

Cannot recall watching the movie (maybe I did!) but this little 80s tune is a delightful ditty to start my Throbbing Thursday moaning! Thanks Paul!! *chwee

It’s a fun movie starring Lauren Hutton and Jim Carrey 🙂

Oh my gods, thank you for this. I had actually ripped the audio track from the credits off my DVD simply to have this song (along with “Hands Off,” which I hope you can find as well someday), because the actual soundtrack album is ridiculously expensive. So excited to have a good copy now!
