Eurythmics – Right By Your Side (Canada 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

A. Front

“Right by Your Side” is a song by the British pop duo Eurythmics. It was written by group members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart, and produced by Stewart. The track was released as the second single in the UK from Eurythmics’ third album Touch.

“Right by Your Side” was something of a departure from previous Eurythmics songs, and is an uptempo love song which features a calypso music instrumental backdrop, complete with synthesized steel drum and marimba sounds and a horn section.

“Right by Your Side” became the fourth consecutive Eurythmics single to hit the Top 10 of the UK singles chart during 1983. It also climbed to number 29 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

“Plus Someting Else” is an instrumental/dub mix of the song “Regrets”; this version was included as a bonust track on the 2005 CD remaster of the album Touch. Shemefully the CD version does not include the full outro and is faded out nearly ten seconds early.

Again this proves that what you do here Paul is such a gift to us music fanatics. I have the remastered CD, but I had no idea about “Plus Something Else” being shorter than the vinyl release. Thanks so much for these types of things. And, we would have been at a loss without your posting of the correct version of “Would I Lie To You” from the 12-inch. I have the CD remaster of that album as well, and it’s not what it’s supposed to be. The labels really need your assistance. Ain’t that the truth!!!!

Thank you Jeff it’s quite annoying that the labels fool the listeners not sure the reasoning for chopping the CD version up. I’d gladly help them out 🙂

Thanks for this! If you’re on a Eurythmics kick, is there any chance the 12″ version of “This is the House” will show up? I’ll happily donate just for that. I’m overdue. 🙂

Paul, I bought this when it came out and played the B-Side instrumental cut of Regrets more than the A-Side after an obsession with the Touch album. Thankyou for your stellar restorations. We thank you from down under !!!

    Great post as usual Paul.
Somewhere along the way I’ve picked up a 7:14 edit of this Extended Version but I’ve no idea where it originated from.

What’s even more ‘annoying’ might be Annie Lennox saying that she finds Dance Remixes ‘all quite vacuous’ !
She wondered what drugs Gay Men took to make them sound palatable.
So don’t go expecting ‘Remixes’ for her new Covers LP.
She went to court to try and get the Remixes of 17 Again and Pavement Cracks blocked.
    Yet no-one seems bothered ?
