BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1988

A. Front

“Turn Around And Count 2 Ten” was the first single releasd from British synth-pop band Dead Or Alive’s fourth studio album “Nude”.the single proved to be a massive success in Japan, where “Turn Around and Count 2 Ten” spent seventeen weeks at #1. While not released in the US the single still cahrted on the Billboard Hot/Dance Club Play Chart at #2. The single also charted in the UK #70 and Australia #30 respectively.

“I Had A Disco Dream” Mix is the second of two 12″ singles that were released only in the UK and is the more rare of the two. This 12″ also includes an edited Instru-MENTAL Mix of “Something In My House”. There are also two tracks from “Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Know”, “Then There Was You” and “Come Inside” both tracks run together with no spaces in between I have left this intact since it is how it appears on the 12″.

OMG! Love you, Paul (in a manly way, of course), as you are gradually transferring all my 12″ collection that is stuck in my attic and which I can no longer play over to high-quality MP3s and FLACs! Thank you! 🙂

  7. Jeff Says:

Okay, I admit it: YOU ARE GOD!!!! Hyperbole aside Paul, thank you TONZ for this. Man, this should have been released as a single in the US!! I get so sad that their record label here didn’t seem to support the band. Pete and Company were a force to be reckoned with. I so want Pete to be bigger now. It’s that voice and that intense dance/rock sound that I crave. WOW, I have goosebumps already and I haven’t even downloaded this thing!! You really are a wonder Paul. So excited about the “Something In My House” mix too as this song is one of my favorites by the band. I love the GOTH Hi-NRG sound to this track.

You have made me so extremely happy Paul. You are the absolute BEST!!!

    Lots of Love!!

    Jeff

Thank you so much Jeff. Even though the single was not released in the US the dj’s came through spinning the import pushing the track to #2 on the dance chart wow!

    David Reply:

Yes, I remember this being spun more than a few times a night at Studio One in Los Angeles. They even played the video, which was made with this mix. Always always always filled the dance floor.

    Hey Paul,

This is weird, but I’ve tried downloading this great 12-inch via Firefox two times already and the only tracks that made it through, were the B-sides. No A-Side track unfortunately. Need your help.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    DjPaulT Reply:

I’m not really sure how to help Jeff have never heard of that problem. I checked and all the files are there. Make sure you are letting the download finish completely or try another browser. Please let me know what happens.

  11. Mark Z Says:

Hey Paul, another amazing, and rare, selection! It still boggles the mind that such a fierce, underground and relentlessly ‘out there’ band made a huge commercial splash! Ah, but that was the 80s, when focus groups didn’t run the music industry (and, of course, who would dare say ‘no’ to Pete Burns!)

I actually have my own really good rip from my 12″ single but I’m still giving yours a listen 🙂 I bet I will hear a massive improvement compared to mine 🙂
Oh and by the way, I love a comment that you made earlier… “more dead or alive on the way” Horahhh!

    David Reply:

This mix wasn’t intended to be “rare”, as I understand it there was some drama about the picture cover on the OTHER 12″ (where Pete is practically nude), and the record company decided to withdraw the sleeve. The wrong editions were destroyed, and the first 12″ was re-issued in a plain black sleeve. But the “Disco Dream” version had already shipped overseas, where withdrawl wasn’t an option anymore, so this was easily found in the USA and Japan. I owned, at one point, more than one copy of this and had seen many others for sale in various shops around LA at the time.

Thank you Paul. This mix wasn’t released in Australia so I am looking forward to hearing it. Cheers mate.

  16. Ally Says:

Thanks. I have a digital audio file with the Disco Dream mix name on it, but it is different. It is 7:15 long, and is an extended, unmixed version of what appears on the Remade Remodelled album (just as this version from your 12″ is an unmixed version of what appears on the Nude album). It starts the same but has a different ending. Any ideas what this is?

Just FYI, the CD picture disc of Turn Around And Count 2 Ten, there are two additional seconds at the start of the instru-mental mix edit of Something In My House. You can hear them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Qrm3yDLjXw
