Was not aware that this 12 inch edit of 7 minutes ever existed! Curious to find out if it’s a new mix too.
Nice post Paul, like always actually…

Thanks Stefano. I think it’s an edit of the 10 min mix. I posted the commercial release a while back 🙂

Ex15 are you talking about the “Remix Hit Collection”? My copy only has the 9:58 version. I don’t think these two mixes are on CD.

    Yes, I am Paul.

Just had another listen to both versions, they are very similar indeed, but the 1991 version differs somewhat half way through..

    ex15 Reply:

The difference actually starts some 45 seconds in (extended rap), before both are the same again around 4:50, then the CD version carrying on after the vinyl version fades out..

the 12″ edit (7:10 minutes) changes a few of the verses around, cuts it here and puts it in again there. furthermore, the various extended bits (female choruses etc.) feature at different points in this edit. it also fades out early, which is a good thing as the ‘extended rock ‘n’ soul version” (10:00 minutes), on which this edit bases, repeats the first verse after around 8:30 minutes, which gives this version a rather anti-climaxing ending.

so the edit adds nothing new to the main mix but plays around with the elements (verses, choruses, gimmicky sound effects etc.) and avoids the boring/repeated ending of the orginal extended version.

I love when I hear the audiophiles here at BTG rave about your vinyl rips Paul. I don’t believe that you know how great you are!! Just phenomenal with your care and attention to detail. Buring The Ground is like a sonic heaven where old vinyl gets its wings, right from the King Angel himself, DjPaulT!!!! I absolutely worship you and your work.

How fickle pop radio and consumers in the US and UK were with regards to Falco.
After back to back smashes with Rock Me Amadeus and Vienna Calling, Falco struggled to have another pop hit by the end of the year. I think both markets see him merely as a novelty act, which is quite a shame really.
Thanks for another rare 12″ remix Paul!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Oh how I agree Ric. Falco was such a great talent overed pop music many gems. It’s a shame really how over looked he was.

this 12″ is not available on CD as it was only released as an US 12″ promo back in 1986. The main mix is an edit of the aforementioned ‘extended rock ‘n’ soul version” which runs 10 minutes. It was edited by Christer Modig, who created the two international 7″ edits and an additional 12″ edit of “rock me amadeus” a year before.

the ‘single edit” was released on CD, for example on this releases:

    http://www.discogs.com/Falco-The-Hit-Singles/release/1059453
    http://www.discogs.com/Falco-The-Final-Curtain-The-Ultimate-Best-Of-Falco/release/424599

the original, extended version (10:00 minutes) can not only be found on the mentioned “remix hit collection” but also on this very fine collection of falco 12″ from the 80s which was compiled by blank & jones:
    http://www.discogs.com/Falco-So80s-Soeighties-Presents-Falco/release/4104810

definitely worth a look if you are into 80s 12″ and/or falco.
