Re-Rip Newly Remastered!

Originally I posted this one on March 29, 2011. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon Super 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

Take the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein and the musical The Sound Of Music, mix it all together give it a disco beat and you’ve got “The (Disco) Sound Of Music by Show-Stoppers ’81.

It’s been a mystery as to who actually sings the lead vocals on this track is it it Julie Andrews? All clues lead to Sarah Brightman being the singer. Clue #1 the track was produced by Jeff Calvert who also produced Brightman’s 1979 single “I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper”. Clue #2 according to the 1989 UK TV series “This Is Your Life” it was revealed that Sarah Brightman did actually record the vocals for “The (Disco) Sound Of Music”. Mystery solved.

Just for fun I also put together a custom picture sleeve. Enjoy!

…okay, I have to slip this into a set sometime, just to see people’s heads explode. 😀

Would love to see the reaction Doctor 🙂

Sounds like (but is not) Julie Andrews meets Stars On 45….

In all honesty this is truly dreadful1!!!

    Where’s the delete button…

    Mike Reply:

Ha! This made me laugh. A fun novelty record. My Mom, who is a big JA/SOM fan, laughed the first time I played it with her. But yes, not something most people would listen to on a regular basis.

    Richie Reply:

Why bother commenting if you can’t say thank you or something nice.

    ex15 Reply:

My comment was in jest, as always Paul should know the majority (inc me) appreciate his rips, regardless of whether the discs appeal or not..

This was the time where Medleys were all the rage (thanks to Stars On 45)…covering The Beatles to ABBA to Stevie to The Supremes. Even The Platters, The Beach Boys and The Beatles (own vocals this time)had their own medleys released evetually. So when even The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra can do their own classical Medley, why can’t one of the greatest movies ever?
I know this is not Julie, but Sarah really sounds awfully like her in most places. And since we can’t get the real deal, what better way to relive the musical moments of the movie in just over 7 minutes than this?!
A fun record and very well-structured medley.
Thanks for doing a re-rip of this, Paul!
btw, your colour choice and fonts for your sleeve aced it! Retro early 80s!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Thank you Ric. I love this medley so much and Srah does sound like like Julie in most places. I thought this would be fun with all of the Sound Of Music stuff going on right now in the states. Carrie Underwood just did Sound Of Music live on network tv. Not as good as the original but still nice.

  5. KitKat Says:

Thanks for this – a great Sarah Brightman rarity!

Any cahnce of re-upping KC and the Sunshine Band’s Give It Up – no Chrismas party is the same without it!

    Have a good one!

  6. David Says:

FYI- The MP3 file doesn’t seem to work, I’ve downloaded it 3 times, but the folder is empty when I unpack it. 🙁

    DjPaulT Reply:

It should be there David. I downloaded it and it works fine have not had any other complaints. Maybe you didn’t let it finish downloading completely.

    David Reply:

Strange, it’s still not working for me. But I got the flac version, so I’m all set. Merry Christmas, and thanks for everything you do. 🙂

  7. chiko chevere Says:

Backed with The Sound Of Rapping. Wow, this sounds like the most horrible, horrible thing ever. Are you mad at us DJ Paul T?? 😉

Just thought I’d use this opportunity to say thanks again for everything (ELSE) you’ve given us over the year and the years. The rips are amazing and the scans are freaking phenomenal, no lie.

  8. Dan Says:

This is certainly, umm… interesting. Campier than “The Ethel Merman Disco Album” and Grace Jones’ version of “Tomorrow” from “Annie” combined.
