On Aug 21, 1982, Dead Or Alive released their fourth single, “The Stranger”. It was backed by “Some Of That”. It was their fourth independent release and their last. “The Stranger” charted at #7 on the UK Indie Chart and in Japan it reached the #10 position. At this point, the band was a five-piece consisting of Pete Burns (lead vocals), Mike Percy (bass), Tim Lever (keyboards/sax),

Steve Coy (drums), and Wayne Hussey (guitar). Soon after the release of “The Stranger” the band was signed to Epic Records and in 1983 released their debut album “Sophisticated Boom Boom”.

Neither “The Stranger” or “Some Of That” have appeared on any Dead Or Alive album. “The Stranger” later appeared in a remixed form as the b-side of “What I Want” in 1983.

Nice… For years I have searched & searched… and I have never laid my eyes on this 12″ single. I have an Epic re-release of this tune, but a Black Eyes Records release is ULTRA RARE… Do you actually have the 12″ Paul??…this is amazing. THANK YOU! – I have Misty Circles playing at my desk at work right now!!!! Perfect timing.

Hi JonEthin this one was not released on 12″ only 7″ in the UK. “The Stranger” did appear as the b-side of “What I Want” but it’s a different mix than what is on this single that I have posted today 🙂

You are ccorrect Paul… I was fooled by the small hole in the record. I forget that the UK 7″‘s have the smaller turntable spindle style that does not require the adapter….

Wow… I must say that the version on the (b) Side of “What I Want” 12inch, was re-recorded. This version that you have posted is much more raw.

    DjPaulT Reply:

It’s quite possible this version could be a live recording during their 1982 Peel Sessions at BBC London.

This should’ve been a big hit. Probably their most haunting track. Thanks Paul.

    Hey Paul,

I visit the New Wave Outpost everyday and it’s great that others are singing your praises over there. Actually, I give them credit for telling me about BTG in the first place. Nothing but raves and you most definitely deserve it.

I can’t believe you have more DOA stuff too!! Wow, I can’t wait.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Jeff

    DjPaulT Reply:

Hi Jeff I am actually a member of that group but I am so busy with BTG that I never get to visit them. I must go over there and thank them. Is there a certain post where they mentioned BTG?

    Have a great one,
    Paul

    Jeff Reply:

They’ve mentioned you concerning the Tears For Fears latest reissue. Also, on the one concerning Fiction Factory. I’ve noticed a post concerning your KISS remaster which got me to check you out in the first place. I’m quite sure there are others as well. Search on your name or BTG. You deserve this high praise Paul. My life seemed so “bland” before you. I try to replace my old vinyl with CDs, but sometimes that’s not possible or disappointing. You show so much precision and care each and everytime. Plus, you give us flipsides and crazy dub mixes in perfect EQU’D sound. I relish each and everyone of your rips. It’s great that others do too. I love to hear about people discussing your work on NWO and in the comments section here on Burning The Ground. It’s really a fantastic community here with people donating money to you and this site. It’s really the least we can do.

    Have a wonderful day Paul.
