The song was written by John and his long-time songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin. The song reached #30 on the UK Singles Chart. It fared better in the United States, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1988, kept out of the top spot by fellow British singer (and vocal collaborator) George Michael’s hit single, “Monkey”. Good choice, like this track and like the remix done by Pettibone. Never heard the Pub Dub, nor the Just Elton And His Piano Mix. And I think the single remix is new to me too. Weren’t released in Europe at that time, only the 7:21 mix.
It’s time to re-rip the older Elton John posts real soon Paul 🙂

    Hi Paul!

This was one of those tracks that would go on and on forever and would not wear out no matter how many times I played it.I used to spin this for month and people never got tired
dancin’ to it,the remix just worked so good in the club, Shep @ his best!
The song wasn’t a big radio hit here either, but on the local Radio dance chart it was no.1
or no.2 for a long time, people just kept voting for it for months!
Think I was spinnin’ the UK or the EU 12″, never had the US 12″, nice reminder Paul!

I used to do that too, Paul…playing those two back to back in my mixset! Plus the Shep remix for Nia Peeples’ Trouble!

What a coincidence I recorded this 12″ last night on my new LTT Technics SL-7.
Would you like a Lossless copy so you can compare the quality?

    Kind regards,

Pettibone was the best, period. I played this 12″ so much it doesn’t sound good anymore. I’m happy that you decided to rip it. The dub is awesome!

I’m with you Sergio. I idolize Shep Pettibone. When I was in high school or early college, I wrote him a letter asking if I could be an intern with him. Sadly, I got no reply. LOL

Thanks for bringing back memories of my young adulthood in Atlanta. I can’t recall if Elton was living there yet, but the big gay club – Backstreets – would play this song every night.

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re very welcome Christian the big club in Oklahoma City Angles played it heavily also 🙂

I’m surprised this was the huge #2 in the US as Elton’s career post-Nikita hadn’t been impressive. I’d like to think that the Pettibone Remixes have a lot to do with the success.
And when Elton peaked at #2, there was another I Don’t Wanna song peaking at #3…Chicago’s I Don’t Wanna Live Without You.
Thanks for another smashing post, Paul!

You’re welcome Ric. seems like this song was everywhere in ’88.

    Dan Reply:

I think the Elton and Chicago songs had several weeks on the chart where they were either back to back or near to it. Too bad they didn’t reach the top and one push the other out of #1.
