Visage – Love Glove (US 12″ Promo)

A. Front

“Love Glove” is a single by British pop group Visage, released on Polydor Records in 1984.
It was the first single to be released from Visage’s third and final album, Beat Boy. The song peaked at #54 on the UK Singles Chart.

Two music videos for “Love Glove” exist. One version is the clip shot in Egypt by Jean-Claude Luyat, as a part of a full-length video incorporating songs from The Anvil and Beat Boy. It features Egyptian pyramids and Steve Strange riding a camel across the desert as well as singing on a yacht. This version was later included on the Visage video album in 1986.

Another version was shot by Nick Morris in London’s Docklands in August 1984. In this version, Steve Strange appears in his Beat Boy album cover make up

Cheers Paul – was begining to think you’d missed Visage – so thanks for these two recent posts. These guys were around at the start of the Eighties – Fade to Grey was a significant release in the UK. They have a new album out that captures the feel of the early albums – check it out.

You’re welcome Gerry. Hadn’t forgotten about Visage just took me a while to get round to them 🙂

    Ta. 🙂

Paul, I don’t suppose (I think I already know the answer!) you have either of the Seona Dancing singles, 7s or 12s? (Ricky Gervais’s new wave band from 1982)

    DjPaulT Reply:

I have been hunting both for a while but they seem to be pretty expensive and hard to find in Near Mint condition. I’ll keep looking though. I just may get lucky someday 🙂

    Jermajesty Reply:

Yeah, I guessed it’s one of the ones you’d have needed to have had from back in the day, or else the price would be crazy.. …though just looking on eBay UK there’s been a couple recently that weren’t so high as I expected.

I’ll keep an eye on eBay UK, see if one pops up that’s got ‘UK only’ for P&P setup.

Suppose the other thing with an oddity like that, if you did your usual amazing rip it’d get bootlegged to death and likely sold!

I looked on Ebay US and nothing listed. Discogs has one seller thyong to sell “More To Lose” for $300.00 crazy I imagine he’ll be sitting on that one for a while lol. There is a shop here in town that has a lot of stuff that they have had since it came out many imports. I’ll look there next time I go 🙂 Thanks for keeping an eye out for me.

    Jermajesty Reply:

$300. 😀 When you’ve got the only spare copy you can charge what you want I suppose. But I’ve seen them the equivalent of ~$20 in eBay ‘completed items’.

I think Bitter Heart was the better song of the two. I’m sure they must’ve had more songs than 4 that they’d demo’d. Guess Ricky’s in no rush to dig them out if so. 😀

Just listening to them on YouTube clips, they remind me a *little* of The Associates. Do you know them?

    DjPaulT Reply:

Oh yeah I am aware of The Associates I thin I hve one or two of their singles. Great band. Looks like “Bitter Heart” is the least expensive on Discogs any way. I have google’d these record without much luck. Hope i can find them I really like the a lot.

    Jonathan Reply:

I have both the Seona Dancing 12″s, and Bitter Heart is definitely the better of the two. It was re-edited by Razormaid in their usual fashion – i.e. largely pointlessly. The Associates were fantastic – Billy Mackenzie had one of THE great voices.

    Goodguy Reply:

Oh come now, Joesph Watt has done some great stuff too.

I love the inst. version. Thanks Paul.

    You’re welcome Omar 🙂

  4. Chris Bennett Says:

Many thanks for this, Paul. As mentioned in my comment for ‘Pleasure Boys’, I used to have a copy of this myself so it’s great to hear it again; especially the instrumental version which has never been released on CD. (The Full Version and ‘She’s A Machine’ were both released on the first and expanded CD release of the ‘Beat Boy’ album in 2009).

Another Visage release I just thought of that has never come out on CD is ‘Frequency 7’ which was the B-side of very rare first single, ‘Tar’, released on Genetic Records. This is a vocal version not to be confused with the much slower Dance Mix which is an instrumental version and has been released on various Visage ‘best of’ CD’s.

  5. Mike C. Says:

Thank you so much. Loving old and new Visage right now.

  6. Goodguy Says:

Thanks Paul. I do hope you run across a copy of the Beat Boy 12″ at some point. I’d love to hear that too. 🙂

Re the original video with Steve wearing his BEatboy makeup – the video you describe is on youtube and i prefer it to the crap one inc on the DVD of Visage
