Thank you for this. It is wonderful to have this, as the “extended version” included on the remastered Private Dancer album is a fade lasting about 7:03. Does anyone know why the fade even exists? There would have been room on the CD for those extra 40 seconds. This song is the first extended version of a pop song I had ever heard, back in 1985.

    The Doctor Reply:

Why does the fade version exist? Because the people who remaster these things for CD are idiots, mostly. When Mike Oldfield’s “Incantations” was first released on CD, they cut off the first several minutes of what had been side 3 on the original double-LP to “make it fit”, even though the entire album was only 73 minutes long and would easily have fit into the original 74:33 running time of a standard CD.

I also noticed that the 7:03 version is also on the Japaneses “Private Dance Mixes” mini album. I think that maybe they just used that version for the remaster because they were too lazy to dig up the original master of the 12″. Not evensure why Japan used that version either.

Odd, I have the Australian/New Zealand version of Private Dance Mixes and it has the full-length version.

I’ll have to check my Japanese 12″ of Private Dance Mixes to make sure. But according to Discogs it’s 7:03 could be incorrect though.

According to discogs.com, the Australian CD of Private Dance Mixes contains the fade version. Is that not accurate?

not sure if it’s accurate the images don’t show track times on the CD or sleeve. I only have the Japanese vinyl version. I’ll check it later.

Discogs is incorrect. The track duration on my CD is 7:48. I’d correct Discogs but I can’t remember my credentials at the moment.

Christian are all of the other times correct on the CD? If si I will correct it on Discogs.

    I corrected Discogs.

    You’re welcome Spring. I didn’t know she was having a wedding 🙂

    Spring Reply:

lol. It was not happened yet. Now all in preparation. The date of the wedding has not yet disclosed. The husband of 73-year-old star will be the 54-year-old German music producer Erwin Bach. They have been together for many years (27!), but the marriage was not registered. Tina Turner recently received Swiss citizenship. Wedding preparation in Kusnacht, not far from Zurich. Singer has established a dress code for the guests – they will come in white suits. 🙂

Again such a great post! It would be very nice (to say the least) having all Tina Turner 12 inches compiled on this blog sometime. But we are almost there, aren’t we? Just a couple more to go…

Not my fave extended version .. the WLGTDWI was a better extended version than this one. I just wasn’t feeling this song/album at all at the time either..even the Private Dancer extended version on the remaster cd does not indicate ‘extended version’ on the liner notes but it is. They bounced back with the ICSTR extended version and that one is my fave from the album. Tinas all time BEST extended version is Steamy Windows. (Im a ‘2 extended versions’ only fan)

I’m a li’l slow on the draw with this one – only just now realized that this original vinyl has the extra 40-ish seconds that they chopped off the CD (re)issue! Thank you for sharing it, Paul, and in such excellent sound!
