“So Far So Good” is a 1986 single produced by Narada Michael Walden and recorded by Sheena Easton for the soundtrack of the film “About last Night…”. In the United States the single barely missed the Billboard top 40 peaking at #43.

The b-sdie for the 12″ is the Nile Rodgers penned “Magic Of Love” a special edited version taken from the album “Do You”.

Special note about this single: In the US two seperate 12″ singles were released one featuring remixes by Chris Lord-Alge. The other released as “Red Mix” featured mixes by Rusty Garner. I have incorporated both singles for this post.

wow, never heard this song and had no idea narada did a track for her (sounds very much like his other productions in this era)! This is a great, fun, catchy pop song, wonder why it didn’t chart higher?

    DjPaulT Reply:

Hi Spoinny the only thing I can think is that maybe it sounded too much like Whitney’s “How Will i Know”.

I think what probably happened with it is following the disappointing sales of ‘Do You’, Sheena was most likely just put aside for hotter artists, and seen as having run her course, like many other female artists who were hot during the early 80’s. Of course, she had at least a couple more tricks up her sleeves with “You Got The Look” and “The Lover In Me”.

  6. Ramone Says:

As someone mentioned in an earlier post, I also agree this was a (moderately) ‘fun’ single from Sheena. ‘Do you’ (the single) was a hard act to follow and I also left the bangwagon following that single release. Music was tricky like that in the mid 80s !

    DjPaulT Reply:

I agree ‘Do It For Love” was a hard one to follow but this is a great pop song and should have been a bigger hit.

Loving your Sheena String of Singles, Paul!
The (low) chart performance for this is quite baffling. They had the formula right. A song by Cynthia and Tom, produced by Narada, remixed by Rusty, and taken from a Brat Pack movie.
I think it’s probably due to the awkward transition in Sheena’s career from pop darling to Sexy Sheena, and she hasn’t quite garnered her new niche at this point.

I have been loving this week because of ALL the Sheena Easton posts. All I can say is that there were SO many tunes that defined our generation and this is one of them. So far, So good was such a perfect track, IMO, for the movie ‘About Last Night’. I want to personally thank you for adding the ‘Red Mix’ version of this song.

Thank you Dj PaulT and have a nice weekend ahead.
